Do I have to attack Biggs???

By drail14me, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Here's the situation:

Miranda has Biggs and Lowhhrick in arc at range 1. She has a Target Lock on Lowhhrick, has a focus token and has Advanced Proton Torps. She want's to shoot Lowhhrick with the Torps.

According to the recent FAQ, the steps to attack are:

1. “Declare Target” step
i. Measure range to enemy ships and check
attacker's firing arc
ii. Attacker chooses weapon
iii. Declare target of the attack
iv. Pay cost to perform the attack (if applicable)
v. Target of the attack becomes the defender

Does Bigg's ability FORCE you to choose a weapon that can attack him?

No, Biggs does not force you to choose weapon. You can target Lowhhrick with the torps.

It is in the FAQ, pg 10:

Quote

Biggs Darklighter's ability does not trigger if the attacker chose a weapon that cannot target Biggs Darklighter.

And that is because choosing the weapon comes before declaring the target, right?

Correct.

At one time if you could shoot Biggs, you had to. That was changed in the FAQ a couple of versions back.

My question is why would you NOT shoot Biggs? He is a **** and deserves to die.

Kill his support ships and Biggs goes down fast! I guess it really doesn't matter which one you shoot since FSR spreads the damage around. Typically, I'd want to shoot the ship with the lowest Agility just so there's more damage to spread around.

Exactly. If it's just one shot, you may as well shoot Biggs.

But if you've got, say, a spread of 3 missiles driven by Target Locks that can bypass him, that's potentially enough to blast Norra Wexley, or Jess Pava, or whoever the 'big gun' Biggs is protecting is, to scrap without having to go through the mustachio-ed wunderkind first.

Another reason to not shoot Biggs:

You shoot (and hopefully destroy) the ship who is going to possibly shoot you back... if Biggs hasn't got you in arc this round of combat, and you have multiple targets, you can shoot him later.
