If you could choose the best 134 pts for a duel against your enemy... (the commander doesn't count in this operation):

Maarek

Mithel

Valen

Ciena

3 Defenders

134pts..

Drop Defenders.

Add Howl, Dengar, Saber.

It does depend on the rest of the fleet. If you're pushing squadrons with flotillas, the alpha strike is less important, but the value of survivability goes way up.

If you're pushing with an FC/EHB Quasar Fire (like you should in an all-out squadron duel), though, just take every TIE Fighter/Interceptor unique and three vanilla Interceptors for 133 points.

In my opinion this is the absolute most devastating anti-squadron force available in the game right now. All of my Vassal opponents ( @moodswing5537 , @Matt Antilles , and @DoubleDown217 ) can attest to just how vicious this alpha strike is. :) Whether it results in a good fleet is an open question, but as far as anti-squadron goes, it's tough to match.

I'll concur. And with Sloane, it's even worse once they finish the nasty business of decimating your squads into scraps.......

Once upon a time in W2 I recall some people hypothesizing about foregoing escorts and just jamming in so many squadrons that there was no physical room for fighters to reach your intel.

With the advent of Z95s, that might actually be a thing. :)

Problem is any squad farts in their general direction and a Z95 explodes, letting you place a squad in its place.

It is very fleet dependent, as my current squadron-heavy force is 2xDecimator, Morna Kee, Col Jendon, Valen Rudor, 2xTIE Bomber and Gamma Squadron that relies on Squall alpha strike followed by Ruthless Strategists+Kallus AS shot. I guess one bomber can be swapped for TIE Interceptor to increase AS component.

I ran a very similar squad list for the last Vassal tournament before the Rhymer nerf. It wasn't a good list but with Sloane, Rhymer, and Avenger it was alright.

This is my favorite squad composition:

Jan
Biggs
Gold
Norra
2 X-Wing
2 E-Wing
Y-Wing

Push it with FC GH, Toryn+BCC, with Dodonna. Hard list to alpha strike. I have counters to Intel, Counter, and Jendon with the E-Wings+FC. Or if I run against no squads I have 8 bombers that work with BCC, Norra, and Dodonna.

I'm currently trying to get an Imp bomber wing going.

Gives more rogue "chase down enemy ship" capability. Plus it sticks closer to my "Black and blue bomber dice are better" mentality.

That being said, the only reason holding me back from using my absolute favorite bomber, Keyan, is that speed 2 is so hard to overcome without a FCT ship support mechanic IMHO.
