Battle systems terrain set for Legion

By Knucklesamwich, in Star Wars: Legion

I wanted to share some incredible terrain that looks like it will be perfect for Legion. I talked with Alex Davy at Gencon and showed him this terrain and he said that it will work perfectly with the rules that will be implemented. He said that he is working on elevation rules and the ability to use Boba Fett style jetpack troopers. He actually wrote down the info when I showed him pictures of my set and he said that he was going to look into the company because he was so impressed with their stuff. They ran two different sci-if kickstarters so go check them out

YES!

The best thing about this system is that it is 1) modular and 2) it fits in a relatively small box once it is broken down.

I've had my eyes on this before Legion was announced and have been squirreling away money for both.

It’s designed for 28-32 MM so it’s perfect for Legion. I have the original set and the outlander from Kickstarter 2 and together they fit in one small box but fill an area 2’x4’ with multiple levels. If you do one level you could fill probably 4’x4’ or 3’x6’ fairly easily. The price is VERY affordable for this high of quality. You can get one set for under $100.

Browsing their site, its quite impressive but I'm not sure it would be suitable for legion, as its all very large and crowded. Wouldn't it be much better suited to smaller skirmish games like Imperial Assault? Also the aesthetics don't really fit with Star Wars for the most part. Something like echo base could work, but things like the city block or the shanty town looks too much like contemporary earth. Much of the sci-fi stuff seems to be interior area's (which would be cool if you were to play in the interior of an ISD, but again would be more suitable to something like Spacehulk and not a larger wargame like Legion.

IMO, it looks good but dosnt look 'star warsy'.

It does look really good, but it also looks like you'd do nothing but close quarters combat.

How can Alex Davy be working on a high profile scifi miniatures game and not know about Battle Systems? The man is losing serious geek cred.

Their stuff is scifi enough to work for Legion, sans speeder bikes and has sort of a Dark Forces feel to it so I think it works fine. They could try to push a little more star warsy and hope not to get the dreaded letter.

Not everyone knows of every third party product out there.

If you check out both Kickstarters they have the massive indoor sets and smaller outdoor buildings called the “outlands” that looks like something you would find on Tatooine.

Not really a big deal, but not everyone develops a high profile miniatures game.

I'd hold off on buying this for Legion. It's more suited for a skirmish style game (10 or less miniatures per side) then a larger scale game such as Legion. It's too confining to be moving around two armies of 30+ miniatures each. A 6'x3' board with about 40% terrain coverage with plenty of open area to move between pieces of terrain is a better set up and more in tune with traditional miniature wargames.

Would be amazing if as people said it was a bit more 'Star Warsy'.

Yeah as an entire map it might not suit Legion (look at the grids, was made with IA in mind for sure anyway) But Would be a great half/third of the board if one side is attacking some sort of installation.

And i'm sure not everyone who develops miniatures games has heard of a small outfit half way round the world that needs kickstarter to fund each of their developments

Hm, I like the idea, but like the others before me, I think it's not "star warsy" enogh. But it gives me the inspiration of a star destroyer interior battle board. Maybe too narrow for Legion, but I think I will photoshop some plans.. maybe it works..

(Although a rebel force boarding a star destroyer would be highly "unrealistic"..)

I have always liked the idea of this set. It is modular, and it can serve a number of pieces to fit alot of scenarios. I liked this mostly for Star Wars Imperial Assault as it appears to make alot of corridors and hallways. I especially like the multi level idea but once again this seems perfect for SWIA. I know that their second wave has produced some buildings but I wish they had more of a Star Wars universe feel.

Kudos to them for creating an amazing product. Although it should be noted that the system pictured above is 2x2 set up.

If this company can get on board and produce a line that fits in more with Legion, they can have all my money that is not already dedicated to Legion.

Somewhere buried early on the Imperial Assault forums I posted a Battle System link with Stormtroopers under command of Imperial Officers pouring out of an Endor's Moon type bunker. That 100% had a Star Wars feel to it. I think the Bunker was even offered as a free printable PDF.

Since my search fu on this forums is limited, I'll just share these pics of Star Wars minis on their Kickstarter set.

While really cool, I wouldn't want to play an 800 points Legion game on that with tanks/walkers and what not. Perfect skirmish terrain but if Legion is similar to WH40k in terms of models/units the terrain needs to be a lot more open. It does fit the theme very well though.

I think it’s werid that so many keep saying that it’s too compact. It’s Modular, you can build whatever you want. You guys remind me of a bunch of Lord Businesses who can’t build outside what’s on the box. You can make a battlescape of anything you can think up with these sets.

It also has built in squares needed to play Imperial Assault, which would be the better game for this kind of set up.

Have y'all seen their new KS that just got released for retail?

The Outlands pledge in particular can pretty easily cover a 4 x 2 area by itself, or if you want really sparse terrain you could stretch it further.

Here's a pic of the Outlands. Definitely feels more Star Wars than their first SF terrain. 952eda9b5d2b96bb7f67c03953e1e141_origina

Anywhere to buy this stuff in the US? I'm not looking to spend extra money on international shipping. That Outlands stuff does look sweet and should work great for Legion.

I couldn't find any, but I did notice that if you buy four "core sets" the shipping charge dropped off. Apparently, a "core set" includes a simple building package, of which Delta Garrison looks like the most bang for the buck, because you could essentially build two alphas for that.

I just ordered a large number of their buildings, so hopefully I can do some reviews after I get them.

I look forward to seeing your review. I'm not willing to drop hundreds of dollars sight unseen for this sort of terrain... especially when there is no domestic US source.

If it's legitimately nice stuff and doesn't take forever to setup/tear down, I'd be potentially willing to invest 100 USD or so.

What are you interested in knowing? I'm obviously a fan but I can try to provide info. I'm still waiting for my SciFi sets to come in but I have their Post Apocalypse stuff and love it.

It's entirely modular, you use clips to put pieces together, so all the buildings can be quickly taken apart to pack flat.

Clipping stuff together takes virtually no time (with a few exceptions where the cutter didn't quite get it right and you need to use a blade to trim it a tiny bit, but that's rare), and the clips blend into the textures so you barely notice them.

The scatter (crates, chairs, etc) takes from 5 seconds to several minutes to assemble, depending on complexity, but you can set them up once and never take them apart, they'll fit back in the box.

I guess my main concern is that I don't play at home. I'm wondering how long, realistically speaking, it would take to fully assemble and then fully tear down for transport something like the Outlands pack. Also, does the set come with a box to help with transport? Do I need to supply my own box/storage?
