Yes, that is what I mean. Avatar <<< Fern Gully

I could see maybe getting one sequel out of watching professional soldiers systematically annihilate an entire world, but where would the story go from there? At what point does the series devolve into a complete non-sequitur of pretty pictures, without even pretending that we're trying to tie them together with a plot?

About the point where they used the word 'unobtainium' in the first movie.
I love Avatar but pretending it's anything but scenery porn is giving it way too much credit.

Yeah, when Avatar first came out, I knew nothing about it (I don't go to the movies too often, so I had never seen any of the previews or whatnot). When I asked people about it, though, I noticed that no one ever said anything about the plot or characters; they just praised the visuals continuously. A while later, when I borrowed the movie from the library (after the Rifftrax was released), I discovered that there was a very good reason for that.
Unfortunately, I'm not much of a visually artistic person. I like good visuals, but that's not why I watch a movie. If all I wanted was a bunch of pretty pictures, I could just go to Barnes and Noble and pick up any one of hundreds of coffee table books.

Considering how horrible the Holiday Special for Star Wars was, maybe a Holiday Special for a bad series could actually end up somewhat entertaining? (Though sadly, we wouldn't be able to cast Art Carney or Bea Arthur; unless we do some Rogue One-style computer animation, that is...)

and he is an anti-Semite. Yeah that’s hard to overlook.
and he’s batshit crazy.
Still, that’s no reason to hate on this movie! It’s manly and awesome and GOT before ASOIAF was even a thing!
and you gots to agree, this part was awesome.

Nope, I explicitly mentioned it... heh. Storywise, it's definitely the closest to Avatar, right down to the magic Tree of Life and the human loggers with their mechanical contraptions.
The fact remains that Avatar was a very boring and derivative film, and I'm surprised it's popular enough for Disney to have bought it and locked in three follow-up films. I think the film is as hollow and pointless as the Navi River Ride at Disney: it takes over two hours of your life and all you really do is sit there and look at some pretty glowing plants and animals.
It'll be interesting to see which game company picks up the rights to Avatar, as I'm sure the Disney Juggernaut will make it a visible enough fixture in pop culture that someone certainly will.

The visuals could make an absolutely beautiful MMO, provided the writers were given enough freedom to come up with a decent story for it.

Why bother? The people who like Avatar certainly don't seem to place much importance on storytellling. Just make it grindy so they'll have to buy loot boxes looking for the different types of USB adapter hair they can wear.

Imperial Only
Discard this card to deploy two Assault Gunboats from flight group Rho as reinforcements.
This is why we call our Lord Gunboats - Five Winged Saviours.
Hey but! You forgot!!!
CTRL + S followed by Spacebar (to confirm!)
Will cost you 1000 mission points though.
IIRC, ISDs cost you 3000 mission points! ![]()
