Find gate & gate closing

By sa3xxx, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi :) This one counfuse me a little. If an investigator returns to Arkham, thanks to Find gate spell, is his gate considered to be explored/can he close it?

I think so, acoording to rules, but I don't like the idea, that so common spell could do that much :)

thanks and cya

You get an Explored token, since Find Gate has the key phrase "return to Arkham".

Well, then, if a gate suddenly opens in your location and sucks you in during the mythos phase, you could leave the other world without resolving a single encounter there? (being delayed makes you recieve no movement points, not to skip your movement phase)

I'm pretty sure the proto-FAQ ruled that you can't cast Find Gate when you're delayed. Double check with Tibs or Coltsfan (I don't have access to it right now, I'm at school). But yeah ;') that used to be how I played it. I guess FFG decided they needed to errata it because of certain tactics that started being used (like a complete exploration through nightgaunt and find gate, or Captain of the White Ship). I am a little sad that you can't use it while delayed though (I think), since in my mind that was a legitimate use-- protection against being delayed if you were desperately short on time. Ah well :')

Yep, the slumbering FAQ will say that you can't use any Spells with the "Movement" as their casting key on the turn you're delayed.

If you are delayed at the start of a turn you can't cast Find Gate. In fact I don't think you can use any movement-based items or effects, but I could be wrong.

You also have to use Find Gate at the start of your Movement phase. If you get thrown into a gate by a Nightgaunt, or enter a gate via the White Ship, your movement phase has already commenced and Find Gate can no longer be used that turn.

well, stricly according to rules, :

Being delayed :

"Delayed investigators do not move during the Movement Phase, and they receive no movement points."

Find gate :

"Movement: Cast and exhaust to immediately return to Arkham from an Other World. "

A tome :

"Movement: Exhaust and spend X movement point to make a ... check. "

So you can't read tomes while being delayed, because you receive no movement points to spend. But you still get into the movement phase (without receiving points). And the spell neends no movement points to work (it wouldn't work in other worlds ;) ). And since that, I think you can cast it, and the only thing that could prevent it is the errata :) (for example you can't use any movement ability while delayed or being delayed makes you skip your movement phase at all...)

The new FAQ is suppsoed to shut this down. If you are delayed, you can't move, can't use movement points, and can't use movement spells.

Exactly, the proto-FAQ errata is making this impossible (as Tibs, Dam, and Coltsfan have confirmed).

...may I use this spell and return to a different portal?

Example: I'm in Yuggoth and cast Find Portal but to return to Arkham in a Celeno's Portal.... is this correct?? in that case... I get an explored marker??

is officially answered this question?

Whenever you return to Arkham from another world, whether it's by moving out, by Find Gate, or by an encounter, you MUST come back to a gate that corresponds to the OW you were in. Only if you own the Gate Box item may you return to any open gate you like.

In all of these cases, you get an explored token because you returned to Arkham in all cases. If an encounter said to "move to the woods" then you haven't returned and don't get an explored token.

Hmmmmm in this case of using the Gate Box to return to a different portal, do I get an explored token??

Read the second paragraph in Tibs's post. "In all of these cases, you get an explored token because you returned to Arkham in all cases."

yes I know, but I also understood that "in all of these cases" was referred to "Whenever you return to Arkham from another world, whether it's by moving out, by Find Gate, or by an encounter, you MUST come back to a gate that corresponds to the OW you were in."
