Squadronless fleet?

Two main problems that I see - black flak means that only one MC80L will be able to flak at a time. MC80L single redirect + weak side shield makes it vulnerable to bombers. Deployment disadvantage + activation disadvantage is extra.

Again, the ability to travel at speed "4" allows me a lot of freedom to adjust. It doesn't 100% override the deployment disadvantage, but helps.

3 activations isn't a significant disadvantage to me (Infly 2 quite often). I don't subscribe to 4-5 being the minimum. I'd rather fly 3 quality activations over 3 filler and 2 quality. Sure, on the first turn of shooting it might hurt, but then usually I'm blowing away little ships and evening it out quickly

I actually have managed to get squadrons into flak range of two of the MC80Bs without a lot of issue. I tend to bait opponents by putting the center MC80B a little out front. I chuckle at the hope that someday I would get some poor sucker in all 3. Hasn't happened yet.

MC80B are weak to bombers, certainly, but I can typically take out the carriers quickly and leave bombers behind. Certainly not all the time, but anybody who pretends their list can take all comers 100% of the time is deluded.

Against a good squadron commander you won't get more than 1 at a time and if he's running rogues you may end up with no flak at all if you're not careful.

Don't get me wrong, I run squadronless fleets pretty often and I ran min squadrons double Liberty list at some point, so I do want these to succeed, however I feel that there too many disadvantages in this type of fleet (although it is efficient in killing mass flotillas fast).

Oh yeah, HUGE gaps in capability. But more effective than it looks on paper.

I like this as a TO fleet. It's a minimum mental commitment fleet and plays super fast. I don't care if I win, so I'm having a blast running niche fleets. Players always seem to enjoy seeing fleet design reductio ad absurdum

Yes, I can see that. Now it makes sense - it is definitely a fleet that requires skill to play against (somewhat similar to 3ISD builds in that regard)

Heh. Triple ISDs might stomp this fleet. They do exactly what it does, just harder.
