Are there any Nationals remaining? If not...it's FA Q time isn't it.

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

FAQ is not necessary. I am not a big fan of nerfs of any kind. Erratas only spread chaos.

Looking at history of nerfs and looking at current meta and new ships/cards previous FAQ was premature and unnecessary as well. Autoblaster-Bomblet Nym would ruin Palp aces and Defenders anyway, maybe to lesser and more balanced extend (now those ships are completely dead in the meta)

As for now it would be enough to introduce some expensive but powerful anti-bomb and maybe anti-turret upgrade and all settle down.

Like a Tech Upgrade in TIE Silencer rumored to allow shoot at bombs before they drop. Or something like this.

So I vote NO for FAQ and I am just waiting for new tools to toy with, during list building.

I hope the new FAQ is FFG finally deciding to FAQ point values, it would allow for actual and immediate balance.

Star Wars Legion has a rumor floating around about it being attached to an Army Builder that would allow digital updates (no more out of date cards.) Here's hoping that's coming to X-Wing in the near future, even if its attached to a new edition.

Roll back the nerfs on Palpatine and x7, remove them from the FAQ, job done.

It's actually my preferred way to fix some of the structural problems in the game, and it make sense too. I don't know of anyone in our local group who doesn't build their squads in one of the various squad-builders.

It is a good idea from a player's perspective; in theory a regular 'global update' of rules (like the Fleet Books with Babylon 5 A Call To Arms or GW's annual General's Handbooks for Age Of Sigmar) gives you a chance to attack any number of problem areas at once, and - if there's a problem and you mess up - to correct it quickly.

The problem is that at least currently, part of the business model of an expansion-based wargame is that you need to keep wanting to buy new expansions. For LCGs, this is achieved by periodically 'pulling' the old waves and releasing replacements/supersedants in the new ones (either cards with similar effects, or else a new version of 'Luke Skywalker' with a different cost/stat/ability).

'Fix' cards have become part of this - people wanting to get an expansion for an elite upgrade or modification that helps a different ship (hence why, for example, Intensity, which is so perfectly matched to BB-8 Poe Dameron's ability that FFG surely can't have missed noticing it, is in an Imperial expansion, whilst all copies of Engine Upgrade - that Decimators really, really like - to date are in Rebel expansions). If the rules are entirely on line, you need to figure out what the 'hook' is to make someone want to buy the latest alphabet-soup-wing fighter.

The FAQ wont come before the holyday season. Why upset their players before the biggest sale period of the year...

True sir, we got'a remember, this is a business first.

...FFG upsets players either way they turn...the FAQ will happen when the powers that be feel it is right, of course.

Again, the actual reason for the FAQ delay may not be negligence, it again may bad a simple business decision like, "What? Are you guys nuts? Let's wait until the new printing of K-Wings are in stores a few weeks, then let's drop the rest of the FAQ."

There's always something on top. I'm hoping it's just within striking distance of more things beneath it.

This is the problem, and why the imbalance is real and a problem.

Or far more likely - "We're waiting to hear back from Disney's licencing approvals process, we'll get it out as soon as we can after that."

Both the Belgian and Dutch Nationals will be in November. I do think most players would be fine with an FAQ happening before that. The thing is, I have the idea that the spoiled FAQ as is will have very little impact on the meta, only the final destruction of Mindlink and Triple Jumps, but those squads are not flown that much.

As OldPara says, it might also be better to just wait with the FAQ. In the current meta, both unnerfed defenders and Palpatine, while I think that the FAQ made their abilities more fair, would be fine. A general rules question FAQ, concerning Ion and Genius, minefield mapper, etc would be more then welcome though.

It will have to hit before the Gunboat is in stores, otherwise there will be a nice cluster F with the modified wording on the Adv SLAM card, so in that aspect, there is a deadline approaching.

Nordic Nationals are happening in a few weeks time. What we're starting to see are preemptive rulings from the TO's - that way players know what to expect on the day (bar a sudden FAQ drop)

Wave 12's initial release date is 4th quarter 2017 according to the article. I would expect it to be out before X-Mas for the mass shopping season. The FAQ/Errata has to be updated before the Gunboat is on the shelves, otherwise there will be two official versions of the Adv SLAM card with conflicting wordings out. So it will be before the New Year.

*sigh*

I guess that's what I get for trying to be cheeky. Rosh Hashanah is one of the High Holy Days in the Jewish faith, and is also when we celebrate the new year according to the Jewish calendar. It happens to start today at sundown. My comment was:

A) a joke on using "holyday" instead of the more common "holiday" and

B) sincerely wishing everyone in the X-Wing community a happy and sweet new year. Shanah Tovah, everyone!

Well in hindsight, my statement was really more directed towards the timeline @Thormind was stating, as opposed to what you were saying.

Shanah Tovah!

Jontrons cover was better anyway.

Ok, you got me. WTH is jontrons?

You guys need to understand I'm old. To me a band actually had musicians and not just singers and dancers. Some of the groups I saw live include Black Sabbath, The Doors, Iron Butterfly and Chicago when they were still Chicago Transit Authority before the lawsuit. The only reason I recognized Perry is she's a female. (I'm old not dead)

He's a YouTuber who covered firework for a charity event.

It was supposed to be funny, and depending on whether you like the cover or not, ironic.

And I wholeheartedly agree on the band definition. I'm not a fan of this new style of one singer and a laptop.

JonTron is a YouTube personality. I don't watch him often, but based on what I know, his cover should be humorous.

I like his version better. She's better looking, though.

Yeah Aussie Nationals I believe are one of the last (if not the last) so my guess is an 'effective Nov 1' FAQ with a bunch of clarifications for Guns for Hire thrown in for good measure.

New Zealand is mid-November.
