Will a lack of new on screen ships kill X-Wing?

Yes. I hate the ship design. The k-wing stems the look of being more like a WW-2 bomber than anything.

also as sling paint pointed out in one of their videos, given the ships shape and it's top pilot is named crimson leader I think a red October ship reference in the designation would have sealed the deal. But they had to drag poor Memphis belle into this.

(I still want a Sean Connery rattled token though. Please Berto make it happen!)

Since Revell has revealed 2 A-wing from episode 8 (one blue, one red) now I want this just like a Imperial Aces... :D

My mind says yes.

my wallet however...

Games like this, at this point in their development, don't die because they can't sell one or two new ships to existing players. They survive by generating new players. Honestly, the biggest problem with new ships is that it creates an arms race for upgrades which is liable to put off many players as they begin to recognize the cost to play X-Wing isn't actually much less than games like 40K.

I think like any game X Wing will have life span I think the key period will be after episode 9. Disney will risk burning out the franchise and IP if they keep up with a film a year for too long, so a break is inevitable. If Fantasy Flight delve further into episodes 1 to 3, we might have a multi period game like FOW's early, mid and late war army lists. This could give us: [Episode 1 to 3 plus EU Clone Wars]. [Episode 4 to 9 plus EU]. & [Cannon future and Non cannon future]

Adding squadron rules/packs, 3D terrain, narrative mission and campaign packs would add more depth to the game. The game will be solid and well supported up to 2020/2021. What happens after that I think is much more uncertain. I think it would be better for the game to die off or go dormant for while. Then have a reboot as Star Wars is rebooted to a new generation of fans with Episodes 10 to 12 some time post 2025.

I feel you'd get a different answer in a different arena. That is, folk who frequent these forums are likely A) X-Wing fans and then B) Star Wars fans. That is a fair assumption. I would argue that the more casual player/ fans wouldn't be as active as most of the members in these forums. Therefore, asking the question "Are lack of on-screen ships killing this game?" in this forum will result in a resounding no - because a majority of folk are fans of the game.

A second category of players who are A)Star Wars fans and then B) X-Wing fans will likely say yes. But these folk aren't a large representation in the forum's demographic.

By example, and I'm certainly not speaking for the entire gamer base, my group play X-Wing once a fortnight to month on average. We fit that second category. We only play OT ships because that is what is interesting to us. Of our group, I'm the only one who jumps on these forums .. and only every blue moon.

Pretty sure I'm going to paint one olive drab just so I can call it the Memphis Bell! If I have enough spending money left over after buying Gunboats!!!

Not really - if you compare it to the B-Wing, or the A/SF-01, it follows the same naming convention. Sure, the 17 designation is a bit on the nose, but it is a Bomber compared to an Assault starfighter.

I love the resistance bomber design and I'm very excited to see it in December. Hopefully they use it well (better than the B-Wing).

The new Last Jedi ships go a fair distance in fixing this problem.

But if we get more waves of unrecognisable ships then the game will die.

Hmmm...Might be a good time for 2.0. ?

I think you underestimate the people who play x-wing. I play x-wing cause I love seeing a variety of ships from both movies and books. Diversity keeps it fresh. Much like anything in life balance is key.

Well I'm glad people love the design, it just doesn't do it for me personally.

I get the feeling it'll have more than a minute of screen time (my lovely b-wings need more cinematic scenes).

100% wish the B-Wing had more screen time. Such a cool design.

It is if you stick to for fun play with your favorite ships at home... then again my local shop also doesn't have a community so
