Curious... Fair vs Ego

By LagJanson, in X-Wing

So I'm watching tapes and trying to get my head wrapped around things with the top lists. I am not competent enough at this stage to run two ship lists with any comfort so I'm looking at the Rebel lists. FSR2 and Ego 2... Well, both have Biggs-Low... FSR2 has Rex and Pava and Ego2 has Miranda. Both are powerful lists.

I'm not sure I get the strategy on Ego. If I read it right, it's kill enough with Miranda that you have more points remaining on Miranda than any survivors on the other side. Can't tell as all the videos I've so far seen show this list er... Winning 2nd place.

FSR2 I totally understand the theories and have fooled around with lesser lists (Wookie fur free for allergy reasons) and can see how that tree sap improves the list. It looks like it's a lower floor list for strategies.

What am I missing on Ego? I also don't believe FSR2 is dead and buried just yet but it's days are numbered... Aside from Nym... What preys upon it?

Can't speak to Ego as I've got basically no experience with it (tried it once and -- no offence to those who fly it -- I found it so infuriatingly dull that I swore I'd never touch it again) , but as far as FSR is concerned, I've found that a competently flown Dash will eat it alive. He has almost complete control over the engagement, can and will force them into rocks if they want to fight him, and fully-modified HLC fire will get through for effect, particularly since his wingmate will be shooting first and potentially knocking out a token or two.

Both lists both utilize having a large point-fortress to be successful.

For Stage Four Rebels, the entire list is effectively a 100-point point fortress, as the 4 ships fly together and can distribute damage. Your win condition is to simply not lose anything, or start losing ships only after killing a lot. Note though, once biggs or Lowhrick go down, the list begins to fall apart quickly.

For the Ego/Eagle (I thought it was Eagle, w/e) mark 3, the win condition is your 44 point miranda with a missile. You want to bring your firepower to bear on select targets so that your endgame is Miranda vs either stuff she can kill, or stuff that costs less than 44 points that can't kill miranda.

It could be Eagle... I'm working off spoken verbal names. I hadn't caught the 'l' sound but meh... What's in a name? The Miranda list looks potentially harder to fly well. If things get bloody I can see it being the most capable of recovering, but it still feels weak on firepower in things go wrong. Note: This is my comprehension issue, not the list. Clearly it's a good list!
