Oh, no no... I would like it if they were equipped with any number of ships that made sense and looked like real ships and all.
But these feel like ugly because of lack of imagination, rather than ugly by design, you know?

I have no patience for uglies. I'm sorry. I think I hate them more than anything.
No kidding?! Please, tell me again how much you despise uglies! I'd love to hear it again!
I think we get the idea. Now go visit a different thread.

- French Renault R35 tank captured by Germany and outfitted with the turret of a russian T-26- French armoured Lorraine tractor outfitted with a german field howitzer.
- British Matilda tank equipped with a german anti tank gun
- Russian "Odessa Tank". Improvised chassis with a T-26 turret
- Spanish MC-36 truck with russian T-26 turret
- American "Super Pershing". Basically a stock M26 Pershing up armoured with parts from a destroyed german Panther.
And as JJ48 said: There have to be ugly ships. Why should everey ship in Star Wars be visually appealling?
Wow. That Odessa Tank is about the ugliest armored vehicle I've ever seen, even compared to what the Germans had in WW1!
Also, I'm pretty sure that Lorrainitzer ended up in World 8 of Super Mario Bros. 3...

They are TERRIBLE. Complete lack of imagination, ridiculous looking, and...
... oh. You were being sarcastic...?
a couple aircraft examples..
Spitfire with a Daimler DB 605A-1 engine (sorta like fitting a T-65 with T-70 engines)
F-82 Twin Mustang the prototypes started as two P-51's fitted with a center wing section, tail, and a bit of fuselage extension.
NASA canberra test planes.. pretty much a whole new airplane. the base chassis is a heavily modified canberra (actually pieces of several), the engines are TF33's off 707's, the landing gear is modified F-15 and A-4 parts, f-16 ejection seats, and the avionics are custom built.
the last SR-71 ever built was SR-71C, S/N 61-7981, comprised of a partial build forward section intended originally for pressure testing, and the aft end of the YF-12 Interceptor Prototype. (some additional info on that one can be found in this article on how Israel Frankensteined a working F-15 out of two damaged planes.. "the bastard", as S/N 61-7981 became known, was given a distinct variant code because it had wildly different handling than the SR-71A's and SR-71B's.
and then there was Have Blue - custom airframe, landing gear off F-18's, avionics and cockpit fittings off F-16's, engines off the T-2C trainers, heat shields made from old metal tool cabinets..
1970 Plymouth super bird was a 1970 dodge coronet body with Plymouth fenders, special nose manufactured for this car and year. The 1969 dodge Daytona was similar looking but fenders, nose cone and rear wings were not interchangeable: if you want to be technical, then these cars were "uglies". But they stood NASCAR on its ear and NASCAR uses a lot of the technology today. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that you have the right to condemn others who have a different view. If you want to continue to be narrow minded and not think outside the box, you will not have friends for long.
But a galaxy with both TYE-fighters and Y-ties? What the butt?

They are ugly and dumb, and I would not want to be friends with anyone who likes them.

Are you calling the Daytonas stupid and dumb?

If SW Uglies were greater than the sum of their parts like that, then they would make sense. As it is they are just junk slapped on more junk flown by nobodies that have no business getting into dogfights.
I see this is a fractured topic! When it comes to uglies, I'ts mostly the backstories I like, So plus one for the ones in Poe Dameron. They were made out of spare parts on Jakku, where real vehicles are scarce, so, yeah, makes sense to cobble stuff together.
But they do look stupid, generally. (not all of them).

Whoa whoa whoa, let's not get crazy.

Ok. Couldn't tell from your post.
Honestly, I don't find uglies too stupid in the Star Wars universe.
Comparing them to RL planes is the wrong way to look at it IMO. The physics for airplanes is rather complicated so there isn't much room for improvisation. Even so you can find the occasional 'ugly' (see links a bit above in this thread).
Star Wars physics is rather loose however, so the room for improvising is much greater. A more adequate comparison is RL ground vehicles, and here the history is full of things cobbled together from stuff that was on hand. A few examples:
http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/nazi_germany/10-5cm-lefh-183-sf-auf-geschuetzwagen-b2f/
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TACAM_R-2
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KubuĊ
Most of them were likely worse than a dedicated vehicle built from the ground up, but having them most likely was a vast improvement over having nothing at all.

That you are insulting what other people like because you think your opinion is more valuable? Yep, that is abundantly clear. And this is from someone who doesn't even care about uglies.

Behold, the true Uglies.
Some of you are taking what is clearly purposefully over the top posting a bit too seriously;)
And that uglies suck isn't opinion.

Um.... It kinda is. Even performance wise, you had some that were well made. And then there's the Chir'Daki.
