1st game, questions about Adventure phase

By Frog, in Runebound

I really like the game so far, but one thing I am not clear on is the adventure phase.

If the first thing you draw when you encounter a green xp counter is an event, do you then have to basically keep drawing until you get something you fight to get the xp counter? If so you could have to draw multiple cards(Event and skills based challenges) before finally hitting a battle. Or do you just resolve whatever the 1st card you draw and then get the xps?

You definately keep drawing cards until you get something you have to fight.
If you drawn an event you resolve it and draw another card... keep resolving cards until you get a fight.

Yup, sometimes you'll draw 2 or more cards before your turn is done.

I hope this helps.

I finished my 1st game last night and have another question about this phase.

After you cycle through a color adventure deck do you reshuffle the cards? Can you then keep encountering xp jewels that are still on the board or do you quit adventuring at that color level after the deck is depleted?

According to the rules, discarded cards should be put at the bottom of the respective deck, so you never run out of cards.

But when I play I choose to have a discard pile for each deck and I do reshuffle everything when I draw the last card.

You don't have to quit adventuring Challenges of a certain colour, unless you take a +1 Life Experience token.

I'll do that as well. I like the idea of a discard pile and re-shuffling the deck so you don't encounter stuff in the same order the 2nd time through!

Thanks!

With all the deck expansion packs I find I never go through the whole stack in any of the green, yellow, purple or reds in any single game
Which is fantastic. Keep each game very fresh. But if it ever did happen I would do the same as you guys. Discard, and then reshuffle to make a new deck when needed.
I've said this in another post... I really wish FFG would add more adventure cards for all the expansions that force you not to use the base game adventure cards. Each time I feel like playing an expansion (Island, Frozen, Sands) I get discouraged by the limited number of encounters. The same is true for the 30 Adventure Variant Expansions.
I really LOVE the massive market desk and the huge variety in adventure cards. I just want more of these for the expansions too.

Frog, do yo have any of the 30 card Adventure Variant Expansions? If you're enjoying the game I would really recommend them. Particularly any and all from Runebound Challenge Card Expansions and Runebound Items and Ally Expansions .
These will really add to the core game.

About adventure phase, after i draw a challenge card "ATAVAX" and i won the challenge. This challenge has a rewards that tells me than i take the card and i can give this card to another hero during his movement phase. Can i use that challenge card as ally? Note there're others challenge card that have the text "Take this card".

If it can be used as ally, then will be discard if they're knocked out? The rulesbook doesn't have that information i need.

Off the top of my head I can't remember exactly the card called "ATAVAX". Typically if it would say 'this card is now an ally' if you were allowed to use it as such.
What else does the text on the card say? It must say something about what happens, and why you would give this card to another player during their movment phase.
Can you write out all of what the card says?

But when you do have an ally and if they get knocked out you do have to discard them. They are gone.

The Atavax card is NOT used as an ally. The card is kept only to be used for the 2 dice movement penalty as described, and then it is given to another player, who then may use it for the same purpose later. This card is swapped back and forth in this way, much like the Sky full of bees (or whatever its called) card. They are kept, but not considered allies or items, etc.

Too bad, i just wanted to create a way to kill that card "ATAVAX". By Change, can you discard it at our will? I remember a rule from the rulebook that says the following:

"These Cards cannont be sold, dismissed, or lost, either randomly or as a result of being Knocked Out"

If it says that i cannot discard that card, maybe i can create a variant to skip the following reward text, see below, that affect the speed of the game...

"Give this card to another Player during his movement Step to force him to roll two less movement dice. Any player who receives this card can use it on another player's movement step as described above"

or may that card be discarded when returns to his first owner?

I will do the same thing to "The Sky Full of Wasps" which has the following text:

"Give this card to another player during his movement step to change one of his movement dice to a side of your choosing. Any player who receives this card can use it on another player's movement step as described above."

I just want to make a small session of this game to a minimum of 3 hours to 5h max.

About the adventure expansions packs. Can those be mixed with the base game? Some can't be mixed and others can. Which ones can work fine with the base board. How will work on the reds. The game finishes when you kill the boss or resolved the objectives.

By example: The Base game has 2 objectives in order to win the game. Have 2 expansions adventures cards that have 2 objectives to finish.

Only one will finish the game without having a chance to take another adventure?
