At what point in xwing history was the game the most fun for you?

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

I didn't play any Star Wars video games until after this game (I was never that huge of a Star Wars fan until this game!) so I have to say Wave 3. That was the last time that I recognized most of the ships as being from a movie. And even then, I didn't know what the HWK was.

I just figured that the TIE Bomber was the best ship ever, and that its unique mechanic of bombing stuff would give the Imperials a cool niche and a little bit of an edge - shows what I knew! And that was also about the last time that the meta contained mostly characters from a movie.

Wave 3.

In terms of the current grousing, it was a sweet spot; the only EU ship was the HWK. Everything else was OT material.

I really have loved the game from the beginning. One moment that made me the happiest was Guidance Chips. . .I had tried for so long to make missiles and torps effective but just couldn't get it done. Now, they work pretty well.

I think the game is awesome and just keeps getting better. I could careless about the rotating complaints of the meta.

The only thing that could make me happier is a campaign set or ships aimed at Star Wars narrative play.

The last time I had the most fun playing X-Wing? I'd say last Sunday. Why Sunday you ask? Well, I've been playing the game since wave 1 and, for the first time ever, I finally won a tournament. It took me 5 years to do it but, **** it, I did it. ?

Having just got back from UK Nationals, I'm going to say yesterday. Excellent event, a lot of fun lists, excellent opponents, and a good amount of variety on the table.

Judging by how often I play the game in any given week, it must have been pretty much the entirety of this year. This aligns with my impression.

I do love building squadrons, finding combos, exploiting synergies and tweaking lists. When I played Android:Netrunner, one of my favorite parts of the game was building ever new decks. The game as it is is pretty much targeted right at me. Jumpmaster and Nym dominance notwithstanding, I couldn't be happier.

Every time I play epic.

Apart from that... the game will never excite me again as much as it did when I just started. Which wave that was was mostly irrelevant ( 4 to 5 ) but it was just the whole initial excitement... we just played game after game of x+y vs tie ln+adv, adding 1 new ship each match.

I haven't been around since wave 1, but the game was always fun up until the jumpmasters, which just seemed to be playing the game on easy mode. Even the pre-nerf phantom required skill.

We got Autothrusters before they where made irrelevant by TLTs.

But they didn't. Trust me, I have a long experience of fighting Aces with turrets. ATs almost certain evade was really good against TLTs, especially when combined with token staking. Add to that the ships who can take AT usually have the maneuverability and PS to get in the range one bubble to burn the TLT carriers down. There are exceptions, like with Miranda, but that's on the pilot, not TLT.

Wave 7/TFA Core.

Just before Jumpmasters released (no real grudge against them, just mentioning as a point of reference). I remember really hating the Imp Aces builds then, but back at this time all three factions saw good use (Inq wasn't out yet). Poe showed up and I loved him, but my own personal gem was Brobots. K-wings existed, but they hadn't really been tapped yet (good thing, IMO).

Considering my very first game was last Thursday, I'm going to have to break from the majority and say that the current environment is the most fun I've had in the game.

Started the game with the TFA Core Set. The wave 7.5 meta was my favorite. Every faction was relevant, arced ships still mattered (despite the prevalence of TLT). Generics and swarms were still a thing. Many of the best ships and pilots were the most iconic ones. The current meta is the worst I've ever experienced.

For me, it was the moment I realized that the core set was missing all the x-wing and TIE fighters pilots everyone was discussing then... Such a face :D

That moment I stepped out of noobness and began this tiny plastic starships addiction :)

Winter 2014. Because I had time to actually play!

I love collecting them. (Soon I am going to give it a go at painting them, though I don't think that will last long. Lol)

I love list building.

I played last week and will play next week.

Pretty happy right now.

I definitely enjoyed ace-whinging it. So, my answer doesn't exactly line up with balance... but Wave4 Phantom (so much funnnn) and then wave7 Palp Aces.

Right now? Not so much fun.

Now.

I finally have some regular people to play against!

I came in right as wave 9 was dropping. It's always been fun. But my all time favorite games are the ones where we are doing a series of missions, like the c-roc campaign was incredibly fun. Still enjoying 100 point standard games too, but there are so many ways to fly I can't ever seem to get enough time to do what I want.

Any time that I have time to play.

I will admit I miss the arc dodging of the early waves but this is still the best game I have ever played. Are there things I would change, sure, but over all it's still a great game and a good time.

I enjoyed it before Palp showed up when Soontir was King but not invincible, When you had to only use 1 upgrade on an interceptor and you lived and died on your ability to either arc dodge or stay range 3 with the Soontir Stack.... I also enjoyed the post Phantom nerf, it actually for a short time made my favorite phantom flyable again (Echo).

What got me into the game was Wave 2 when the Falcon came out I bought it thinking wow what a great looking model. I then found out there was a game attached so I bought in.

I got in the game late... I think shortly after the Ghost was introduced. I don't know how things were before, but every game I play, I have fun. Yeah, I get slaughtered, but it's still fun because I'm flying the ships I like and they're my builds. Sometimes they line with with the meta, but not always and that's fine.

Just got introduced to this game a few months ago, and have had fun in every single match, so it's all been gravy.

And making charts.

Sometimes I think that this game is mostly played by statisticians. . .:P

Winning my first championship - what a fealing. Loved playing my own version Dengaroo☺️

From the moment where I got my acrylic templates onward. Once you have them, you can never go back to plain ones :)
