The Painted World functionality (Delve too Deep, etc.)

By byelobog, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

If Sefina plays The Painted World copying a Delve too Deep, does that work fine for gaining vp (as the remove-from-game replacement effect never triggers, since it goes to the victory display instead of being discarded)?

Hypothetically (since it's not currently possible), if Sefina got an event with Exile under her, and copied it with The Painted World, would that (a) exile The Painted World, but then (b) she could rebuild with her stated number of copies of her signature card again (for 0xp/1xp each?)?

Finally, does Uncage the Soul work on The Painted World (played as a non-spell), or only if the card being copied is a spell as well?

My understanding is that The Painted World would indeed go to the victory display instead of being discarded. But once it is out of play, it it just The Painted World again, not the card it copied, meaning it is not worth any VP.

I haven't heard this considered, but I guess it would get exiled, and then for the next scenario she still has to abide by the deck construction rules if possible, so it would just go back in. I don't think the rules for using XP would apply here, since it doesn't have a level.

I think Uncage the Soul would only work if the card being copied is a spell. Being a spell itself works for things like Arcane Initiate.

For delve too deep: The Painted World vs Delve Too Deep: Whenever a card leaves play, any lasting or delayed effects affecting the card while it was in play expire (see Leaves Play, RR, page 14). That includes The Painted World being treated as a copy of another card; as soon as The Painted World leaves play, it ceases to be a copy and goes back to just being The Painted World. Since the victory display is an out of play area, you could play The Painted World as a copy of Delve Too Deep, but as soon as it got added to the victory display it would cease to be a copy of Delve Too Deep and would go back to being The Painted World, thus losing its victory points.

I believe the reason Uncage the Soul doesn't work for any card is that you're playing The Painted World as that copy, so by the time you're paying the cost it's no longer a spell, because the cost is part of the card you're copying as well.

Hello !

One more question about this tricky Painted World card...

Does it interact with Uncage the Soul ?

Uncage the Soul allows me to play a Spell Card from my hand, reducing its ressource cost by 3. Can I use it to play Painted World from my hand, copy an event which is not a spell, and still have the cost reduction ?

No because you never "play" The Painted World. It's played directly as a copy of another card. So you can use it with Uncage if and only if the card you're copying is also a Spell .
