Next Small Box Expansion Announced: Lurker in the threshold

By Atheral, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

a deep connection in a kind of freaky eldrich sort of way, Tibs? I think so.... Just like this board =).

Hard to tell at the moment, but I got the impression that only *some* of the gates would be roaming, while the vast majority of them would have other abilities. I doubt it will do much to change the game in that respect, although it might add an extra doomer or two every once in a while..

Anybody else notice that the gate markers don't have names on them? What's that all about, I wonder...? How do you suppose FFG is going to swing that..? it's as if the OW you go to might *not* be predetermined (die roll perhaps?).. so maybe you only know where you're going once you get in.... This is pure conjecture here, but.. thoughts?

I did not see a break down of each of the cards, but would it be possible to replace ALL the base set cards with this new set? I know that my group has gotten quite familar with the core set.

Or maybe the artwork was just not 100% finished at the time when they did those photos....

Looking forward to this really, the information in the teaser sure sounds ... well teasing. With a bit of luck and some hard-and-fast rules this might eventually rival KiY as best small-box expansion (doubt it though, I love my KiY thematically). Let's hope things will work out with this expansion. happy.gif

Is it weird that my gf (who isnt the least bit interested in this but very supportive of it) is the one that told me about it? ^_^

What is even weirder is that so many people on the forum actually have girlfriends!!! lengua.gif

I stayed up all night working on an astronomy assignment, and had an early class. But, of course, after the assignment was done, I had to check the forums!

GF: "I thought you were tired and going to bed?"
Me: "Arkham... has a new expansion!"
GF: "UGH. You NERD."

The times, they are-a changin'.

Was supposed to introduce my girlfriend to the wonderful world of Arkham Horror this week whilst we were on holiday however sadly ran out time. Fortunately this news has tempered my disappointment. The only way this news could be better (& to sound like a broken record here) is to include the Dunwich & Dark Pharaoh heralds! Please, please, please FFG!

To say I am excited about this would be an understatement. I even had to unplug my laptop and bring it to show my wife in bed who then proceeded to read over everything twice before we started to talk about it. From what other people are saying, it looks like relationship cards are great, since so many of us are in relationships where we also play Arkham (okay, that was lame, even from my standards).

So much of this looks cool, and I am dying to try it out. I don't think there was any part of the announcement that had me worried or disappointed. Hopefully we can actually replace the base gates with these (that is my current plan) and, like the PSs, the Relationship Cards look to be a permanent part of any future games we play. I'm still working on house rules for incorporating cults and corruptions into regular games (Avi-Dreader had some cool ideas on this as well with his Herald that I'm using), as I love the concept but felt the execution was somewhat lacking.

Thank you FFG, and keep thinking of more ways to enhance this great game.

I'm glad you like the herald :') I liked your relationships joke ;') but I hope you liked my herald more. How many times have you used it? Does it work well? Is the monster limit boost too much?

I'm pretty excited about the new expansion because it doesn't sound like it's going to be crapped up in a way that will require me to make a herald just so the components are useable ;'D although truth be told, I'd be excited about it anyways. I wish it came with a monster or two though. I love monsters :')

Haven't actually played with it, but I like how it just lets you join the cult w/o having to draw an encounter (like the other special locations). The things I dislike about BGotW is there isn't much reason to actually join the cult, and it is ahrd to do so (only 4 encounter cards let you join). So I'm always looking for reasons to get players to join up. Like the one encounter where you discard 2 allies we play it that only investigators with cult membership can get them to join up.

I do have your site bookmarked, and we often scavenge ideas for some of our games. To be honest, I love the regular BG herald, because it is so nasty if we get a weaker AO, we often try to get it to wake up so we can stop dealing with the Herald. My favorite Herald is still the King in Yellow, as the blights are one fo my favorite mechanics. They can really flip the game on you.

This is great news. Looking forward to another small box.

I guess I'll also run out of room in my Arkham-storing-device at this point, but what the heck. I'll find a way, even if I'll have to bend space it self!

FANTASTIC! Thank you FFG!
