Parting Shot and Miracle Worker

By Trevize84, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hi all,
I have this situation:

1. Greedo suffer damage equal to its health pool
2. MHD-19 plays Miracle Worker which will prevent Greedo from being defeated recovering 3 HP instead. I decide to resolve this card before Parting Shot because of rule at RRG page 9 "Conflicts": "Effects from multiple figures under the control of a single player are resolved in the order of that player’s choice".
3. Parting Shot then interrupts, right before Greedo is being defeated (as stated by the card), so that he can perform an attack and then being actually defeated
4. Greedo attacks
5. Now Greedo is finally defeated but the effect of MW comes into play and let him recover health instead.

Is that right?

Thanks.

"Then, you are defeated." defeats Greedo regardless of the damage he has suffered. Recovering damage does not affect that. Your Miracle Worker goes to waste.

(Being defeated, Parting Shot, and Miracle Worker have the same trigger - when a figure has suffered damage equal to health. You can't interleave abilities which have the same trigger. You resolved full each one in the timing conflict resolution order, but leave being defeated the last due to the wordings or Parting Shot and Miracle Worker (otherwise it would get priority due to being a core rule, not attacker or defender ability). So, you either resolve Parting Shot first, in which case you have no figure to play Miracle Worker on, due to "Then, you are defeated" being part of the ability, or you resolve Miracle Worker first, but Greedo is still defeated due to "Then, you are defeated.")

Thanks for the clarification @a1bert , this helps a lot as otherwise Greedo would have been much more powerful. I'll reconsider him in my build.

This was not something that I realized. Thanks @a1bert !

I get that they don't work together and heal and give an extra pre-actually defeated parting shot

But why couldn't you play miracle worker to interrupt and keep Greedo from triggering his death/parting shot? Allowing greedo to live for one more attacks against him (but he doesn't parting shot yet). Then when he dies "again" he actually gets his one parting shot.

I don't get why miracle worker can't be used on Greedo just because he has "parting shot" as an ability. And maybe that's not what you were saying @a1bert so I wanted to clarify and make sure?

So would the above work, playing miracle worker to forestall the parting shot ability and prolong Greedo's life or is miracle worker literally unplayable on Greedo because one cannot choose not to trigger parting shot if he suffers damage equal to health?

I think you're confused about the "Then, you're defeated" being triggered no matter what: it only goes through if you trigger Parting Shot

1. Greedo takes enough dmg

Now I'm free to trigger both Miracle worker and Parting Shot. Note I don't have to do any of them (If I don't trigger Parting Shot, Greedo just dies without getting a shot off)

So I've decided to trigger Miracle Worker but I'm not going to trigger Parting shot

2. Play Miracle worker, Greedo recovers 3dmg

3. Greedo survives and lives to fight for another day

edit to add: If you actually decide to trigger Miracle worker -> Parting shot then it goes like this

1. Greedo takes enough dmg

2. play MW, recovers 3

3. PS triggers, "Then, you are defeated" kills off Greedo no matter what

Don't know why, but when I first read A1berts response I didn't catch that he basically had the same thing I said at the end. Choose to do one OR the other - miracle worker OR parting shot - but you can't do both in the same instance because parting shot will defeat Greedo and miracle worker was a waste - not that you can't ever use miracle worker on Greedo.

Move along. Nothing to see here. Too late at night. ;)
