Just pre-ordered via a UK stockist. Do FFG participate in the Bits-n-Mortar scheme?

I tried to pre-order through my local game store and they said "Not until the distributor solicits for it" since FFG is "highly unreliable" when it comes to even hitting vague release dates like "4th quarter". I want to give them my money but my patience may not hold out that long <grumble, grumble>.

Do they even give a feee PDF if you order a hard copy through them? I don't know since I have only bough Star Wars products from them and those don't have pdfs.

Really hard to say. Looking at existing products on offer they seem to be either physical or digital but I haven’t found one that offers the choice of both.

So speaking of Genesys release dates... It's pretty much a given we'll get sourcebooks and Beginner Games for Runebound, Android, Arkham Horror and Twilight Imperium (in this order), but what do you guys think is the release plan for these? One setting per quarter of 2018? Or is that too optimistic? One would think FFG would want them in people's hands as soon as possible to promote both their system and their settings, no? Well, it's not like any but Terrinoth are likely to see any play in my group, so it wouldn't really affect us if they were only, say, half as quick at getting them out the door. The release rate of official adventures is probably the biggest question mark for me, but also the least important one at the end of the day. Also, I don't really keep up with the speed of translated releases since when it's up to me I only read/watch/play original language versions, but in this case it's relevant due to my potential players, so any educated guesses on how long to wait until German releases? I haven't even found an official German announcement for Genesys yet, let alone a rough release window at any store...

The Heidelberger Verlag, FFG's german partner, published german versions of Star Wars with a hefty delay, so I gave up purchasing the german translation and keep to the original english. They even had to relay to a third party for translation. So I am rather skeptical of seeing a german translation anytime in the next two years.

Besides, in this age of globalisation, it makes more sense, imo, to get stuff in english.

You simply find more support, forums, etc. in english than in german, or any other translated products.

Also, you won't have to wait.

Assuming that FFG has any plans to offer a pdf, my guess is that they are trying to maximize pre-orders of the physical book. By keeping their actual plans under wraps, more people will order the physical copy "just in case" it turns out that they actually are not releasing a PDF.

IMHO, pdf's are fine for novels and art books. As something that is referenced frequently, PDF's are very ponderous even when well indexed. I find that physical books are much easier to use for when frequently referenced.

I will get both. A hard copy is great at the table but I love to have pdfs for general reference away from the table.

I don't really feel like reliving the FFG/GW/Lucas/Disney/Asmodee/Heidelberger/Ulisses/Uhrwerk (de-)cooperation cluster**** (all relevant), but let's just say that I am somewhat baffled that Ulisses isn't jumping headfirst into Genesys as to the best of my knowledge they don't have a generic system in their portfolio.

Every time I see this dang thread updated I come here hoping to see an actual release date. I'm sure I've now caused the same discomfort for someone else about to open this thread...

That said, I'll put in my vote for a PDF. We play with devices at the table to drive the main display (in Roll20) so PDF is optimal for rapid searches.

If I had to choose between hard copy and pdf then pdf would win.

I’m asking if they support bits-n-mortar, where companies give a free PDF when you buy the book. That would increase book sale, not reduce them

If it comes to that I'll pick up the paper copy... but I'd really like both... preferably without paying full price twice...

It looks like their pdf's are all 1/2 of the physical book price.

Well, I want them to dive into the Runebound sourcebook and get appropriately inspired for their player characters with minimal guidance, so I really need the books in German. Plus, all my other Terrinoth stuff is in German and inconsistency in this regard would irk me endlessly. But hey, unless the times the oldest visits get cut down even further now that she's about to hit 18, we'll finish our (reasonably houseruled) Aborea campaign in the summer of 2019 (I do assume its for years now "almost finished" last part will finally be released in time for that), and I have enough board/card games for us to play on (unevenly spread) shorter visits in the meantime to last us till then, so Asmodee has quite some time to figure things out to get more of my money before I'm forced to look for some other system we can all live with. (On a side note, I'm heavily eyeing moving our sessions - excluding the aforementioned campaign - onto Roll20 or some such for a number of reasons. Speaking of which, I really should finally try online to get into a group again as a player in the spring. But random people on the internet...)

I played Descent once, it was quite entertaining, but was not aware that there'd be enough lore for a whole setting.

I believe Runebound was actually the first game for the setting, but I could be wrong, it's been a while. The setting is quite fleshed out all these years later.

Battlemist and Diskwars came first, many years before. Then came Runebound (quickly revised into the so-called 2nd Edition) and Descent with a plethora of expansions over the next few years. And then came in relatively quick succession so far (on average one new base game per year) Runewars, DungeonQuest 3rd Edition (but not the Revised Edition that followed it), Rune Age, Descent 2nd Edition, BattleLore 2nd Edition, Runebound 3rd Edition, Runewars Miniatures Game, and soon Legacy of Dragonholt, all of which (with the exception of Runebound 3E, naturally, and the upcoming LoD, curiously enough) and currently most of their expansions (fairly arbitrary exceptions so far being those for Rune Age and BattleLore 2E, the Conversion Kit, the Dice Pack and the Lieutenant Packs for Descent 2E, and everything but the Army Expansions and the Essentials Pack for RWMG) getting a little "A Game Set in the Runebound Universe" logo in the bottom right corner of every box/book cover, presumably because Runebound was their first big hit set in Terrinoth. (Other languages' get either Runebound or Terrinoth.)

So the first post on this thread that indicated the status was "at the printer" was 36 days ago. Any bets on when the status becomes "on the boat" and we all wet ourselves with excitement? I'll take 11/3.
