Everyone has 'their' style. Its why netlisting doesnt work. Figure out what his flying strengths are and fly that.
Advice needed!
Have you tried just having him play against other imp lists that are basically mirror his own? That is about the best way to show some one skill>list, without the constant 'club the baby seal to death' feel you would get normally. I had some one like this at a flgs i used to go to, nice guy couldn't win for ****. A couple of guys at the shop tried this, when he started blaming his lists. Really seemed to calm him down.

I will definately do this!
You probably want to decide whether you're trying to win an argument with him or just play a game. If it's about teaching him because he wants to learn, ok. If you're just trying to prove a point, that's quite another thing.

Trying to prove a point.
I'd suggest recording a battle and then watch it with him and talk about why you made the actions you did at each point. At the least just talk about the battle like that after, but detail is important so a replay is best.
If this guy is a friend, give up all your strats and secrets. Let him get better so the challenge you face gets higher making you better.
Don't focus on his mistakes unless its clear what was better, just focus on why you made the choices you did. Ask him why he made moves he did just so that he's forced to think about it himself. He ideas might be mistakes, but let him figure it out by hearing why you made your moves, rather than what you'd have done different in his place.
And swap sides..
Edited by homedroneI've found gaming to be like an agreement where each player contributes to the mutual enjoyment of the experience. No one likes to lose too often or they'll get discouraged and stop playing. So when encountering players who are not as far along as myself I have tried to accommodate them by softening my build list and excluding some of the more nasty elements. Eventually they find their way and become dangerous opponents (usually). Also, I have played other games where I've liked a particular style of play but was not successful at it. So I switched to a different style I was not initially attracted to and after a few wins l grew to appreciate it. I agree with Ginkapo. Maybe your friend just needs to find their "one true swing" (thanks Bagger Vance).

I feel I should point out that we've been playing the game for two years now, and when we started, HE was kicking my butt. The power has just shifted recently.
If you don't learn something when you lose, you will never become a better person/player.
Oh, I didn't know that aspect of it. I guess I don't have an opinion then as I play each faction depending on which I'm in the mood for. I've generally found they are the same but different if you catch my meaning ?
