The Best Defense Is A Zombie Magnaguard

By Sigismund The First, in Star Wars: Destiny

Greetings fellow card drawers,

While playing the new Magnaguard character my opponent and I have come to a disagreement, my Magnaguard had 1 health remaining and still ready he was equipped with praetorian guard, mi opponent kills it before activating dealing just 1 point of damage (but he doesn't really die) so in my turn I use the "The Best Defense" event to deal 3 damage to my Magnaguard and remové 2 dice even if he has already been dealt 8 points of damage, my opponent says that since he already has the maximum number of damage already dealt I can't play it but he allows it anyway, as my next action I play a second "Best defense", and finally I activated him using his guardian ability (thanks to praetorian) taking 9 points of damage even when he was already dead, after the game my opponent told me he didn't believe we played it correctly and I can't find anything to prove him wrong yet I've seen in older post that you can still damage a character above it's damage threshold, if anyone could tell me where I can find the answer that would be great.

Thanks in avance

PS: Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language.

I think you played it correctly.

You played it correctly. There isn't anything preventing a character from taking damage in excess of its health. It's simply that after it happens, in normal circumstances that character would then be defeated.

Sounds like you played it right.

Can your opponent find anything in the rules to prove that a character dealt the "maximum number of damage" cannot be dealt more damage?

I believe the burden is on him to back up his argument, rather than on you to disprove his argument. There's nothing in the rules that says a character cannot have more damage on them than their health allows, therefore you can keep damaging the MagnaGuard until he is defeated.

The only thing I could think of is when you're dealing damage "as you wish" you aren't allowed to overkill a character. But that's only with things like the F11-D, Palp, Slave I, etc. It wouldn't apply to any of the damage you took here. In fact, best defense on a dead Magnaguard is a brilliant move. I plan to use that now.

Thanks everyone!!

This is why MagnaGuard is awesome. Maybe the only reason beside killing your opponents last character even though your last character is "mostly dead".
