In order to make honor gain more intuitive, how about just raising the amount of honor required to win the game, and allowing players to gain sick amounts of honor on occasion? Dishonorable defeat could stay at zero, of course, but the new number would need to be a function of the player count, as the potential honor gain rises with the number of players.
