Oh, I guess they were shaved and the hair made into TIE pilot flight suits.

Who is a better pilot, Han, Chewie or Lando? (You'll notice that in "A New Hope," Chewie does most of the flying while Han & Luke man the guns when they escape from the Death Star. In "Empire Strikes Back" Han flys them into a worm and Chewie pilots the ship to save Luke. Then in "Return of the Jedi" again it's Chewie doing the flying when they go to Endor, and Lando blows up Death Star II.)
