Han Solo Movie News

By Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun, in X-Wing

Two new planets seen in the Han Solo movie: Corellia and Kessel.

I can't wait to see Corellia on the big screen, and Kessel I developed for West End Games so I hope they take some inspiration from that. ?

Several people think the leaked Han Solo speeder video from a few months ago is on Corellia. The Han Solo movie is believed to be taking place in 3 different eras over a 7 year period, and the first "part" of the movie is probably where we see Corellia.

Some leaked footage from the set.

We will see the reason why the Falcon and YT-1300s are shaped the way they are.

And since this is the X-Wing forum, do you guys think we will get a Falcon with the blue racing stripes?

I hope we don't get an alt art coloured Falcon. It would jut feel to much like a toy pushing oppertunity and why would Han change all the platings later? But the rest I can get behind, and off course they will take everything we know about Han and cram it into this movie, so I can believe we will see the Kessel run.

I don't imagine he would. but he clearly doesn't exactly take much care of the outside of the falcon. At the same time, I don't see those marks having worn off entirely (unless there's some specific damage that would make them either be burnt off or the hull be replaced.

I think the 'cargo-handling mandibles' has been a thing described in the background before, and explains why the pilot's station is off-set (it's basically a space forklift). It's just interesting to see it on screen.

Dude the kessel run better be awesome. I don't know if I want kessel to be a relatively normal but crappy planet or a space potato like in the EU.

the YT-1300 is like a locamotoive engine that pushes a long train of cargo containers. The huge grappling mandibles lock onto the back of the train and push it along. The offset cockpit is for the pilot to visualize the docking procedure. It's a rigid train so the 'freighter' can use leverage to change the direction of the train with the pivot point the center of gravity.

when you're smuggling i'd imagine both the color scheme and any electronic id's would change regularly.

You'd ditch any unique paint jobs and be as bland as possible if you were flying under the radar. Scum YTs need to happen, they fit the aesthetic :)

True, and although it's a year out and things may change, i'm pretty sure the last thing s&v will need is another 3 dice pwt

Newcanon has already depicted Kessel (although not the Kessel Run) in the Rebels Season One premiere. It's hot, brown, a normal sphere rather than a "space potato", and the mines are big pits in the ground:

Maybe, but the Falcon to me is this ancient ship that is what it is, no need for a "young model look" ... But we will probably get that because toys!

Yeah, I saw the premiere Wookiee child slavery episode. Just wondering if that will actually hold true. Kinda strange, Han and Chewie profiting on the backs of slaves, wookiees at that. I guess maybe the more spice they smuggle the less profit the Empire makes. But the guys like Jabba are just doing the same thing, selling spice that was produced by slave labor. Why is kessel even in the Empire?

Penal colony.

So the wookiees were criminals (dissidents? Terrorists?) sent to a forced labor penatentury? Why were they called slaves?

also why is the Empire mining spice? If it's the same 'glitterstim' stuff from the EU then...why mine and distribute a substance that enhances force sensativity? Or is the NuCanon all about spice being a narcotic or hallucinogen?

According to the newcanon - the Empire reclassified Wookiees as nonsapient. Nobody believes a word of their claim - so everyone calls wookiees slaves rather than "beasts of burden".

That said - there's hints that there was slavery on Kessel even during the Clone Wars:

http://www.starwars.com/databank/pyke-syndicate

(and that Kessel spice is a narcotic).

The Pyke Syndicate sold the spice to the "crime families of Coruscant":

http://www.starwars.com/databank/lom_pyke

Possibly the Hutts after the death of Lom Pyke, took over the Kessel-smuggling business, and cut out the middleman, selling it themselves.

Spice may not be illegal itself - it may be a case of "only the drugs created from spice are illegal" - hence the Empire can be running legal spice business, and the Hutts running illegal spice business using spice stolen from the Empire.

A possibility - Hutt spice is illegally mined by escaped slaves - they're doing their best to stick it to the Empire that way.

Would make Han & Chewie's willingness to be involved make a bit more sense.

Well, how in the universe could the Galactic Senate allow for that reclassification when wookiees were represented in the senate? Was it just Imperial decree? I still don't see any overt racism from Palpatine himself but I'm sure lots of former Republican Humans look down on any aliens due to the majority of the CIS being comprised by non-human species. Perhaps it was higher ups in the beurocracy that ordered it and Palpy either didn't notice or didn't care.

Not that I'm a Palpy apologist but he was always seen with alien advisors in the prequels while some old zombie/vampire looking dudes hung out with him a quarter century later on the DS2. I guess those Imperial dignitaries were more cunning and slimy than Mas Ameda and crew and used racist policies to push out the previous advisors. Also I thought the slavery of the Wookiees was more of a local Trandoshan thing with the Empire merely turning a blind eye to it instead of being actually involved in the bondage. But Disney cartoons don't lie, I guess.

Wookiee leaders aided and abetted a known rebel ringleader in Master Yoda. It would be very simple to paint the whole species as CIS sympathizers to the senate, especially when they can not even defend themselves in galactic common.

Chewie, it was your fault the wookiees were enslaved. Way to go.
