Epic build - must include raider

By Mr Slippery, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Casual game (hence I haven't spammed defenders with ion cannons and D title etc...), and I really want to fly the raider as it looks so good!

Jonus would fly next to raider as support for re-rolls, and raider can activate trick shot for him.

Gozanti flies with the ties as support and throws out fucus tokens. Could also provide cover for ties. Ties probably won't be docked, although I could dock the named pilots for defence.

Any thoughts/recommendations? Possibly ditch the Gozanti for more ships?

Fitting in 2 epic ships does stretch your points a lot. Hux is nice, though for supporting a TIE swarm.

6 Exposed/Howlrunner Reroll TIE fighters should draw a lot of fire- be warned that at PS1, you can expect to lose most of the academy pilots before they get a shot off if your opponent is so inclined, but at least that's drawing guns off your capital ships.

On the one hand, 55 points isn't a huge amount invested in the Gozanti, but on the other, Hux is only really there to feed focus tokens to TIE fighters and fire an occasional dual laser turret shot.

For 4 points less, you could bring:

Youngster - Rage

Black Squadron Pilot - Crack Shot x 8

That's a massive chunk of firepower. Granted, if you Rage on turn 1, and expend your crack shot in that attack, you're much diminished for the following turn or two, but the sheer lump of firepower that delivers can brutalise even the front of a corvette (crack shot can knock even reinforce-generated evades out of the equation, after all).

It could. But for 2 points more, Jonus can pack Swarm Tactics; making the ridiculous firepower of the corvette fire at PS6...

If you want a missile-armed raider, you really, really really want it to be the Impetuous . A free target lock when you kill something allows you to shift your locks around mid-combat-phase, and it's priceless.

Love the jonus idea with swarm tactics along with the impetuous title suggestion.

I agree with your comments on the ties, but I've tried rage with youngster before with very mixed success. They are a bit of a distraction as you say. Perhaps I'll drop the Gozanti and have a rethink on the tie support ships.

Thanks for the feedback ?

In an epic game, it's not unreasonable to spring for Epsilon Leader if you want a cheaper way of managing the stress?

Magnus - I went with the modified jonus build you suggested it he earned every point and more that I spent on him, turned the raider into a monster! I also changed up with a half way house between your tie crack shot build, with the upsilon shuttle carrying Hux in support. Howl had swarm tactics also. It worked well, with ties getting off their crack shots and then blocking, with raider then able to pick off ships as his formation broke up. Was a fun game ?

Glad to hear it!

I’m only going to suggest...just because... not to suggest your list needs tweaking. I really like it.

Try this for the Gozanti:

Gozanti-class Cruiser (61)
Construction Droid (3), •Darth Vader (3), Dual Laser Turret (5), Docking Clamps (0), Backup Shield Generator (3), •Vector (2), Automated Protocols (5)

This way, every shot it takes you can Vader it. Then either reinforce or construction driod. Keep the Gonzanti circling the outside sniping.
