Seriously! Let's go for it, with a Y-wing tossed in too.
2nd Edition Original Trilogy Core Set
No.
Why the ---- not? The first edition isn't on the shelfs anymore, and I'm a dude in my late 30s I want original trilogy ships first and foremost. It should be pretty easy to produce.
"No"
thanks for chimeing in Dr House, that's brilliant.
I agree with no.
I believe they are in the process of reprinting the original core set now, so you won't have to wait too long to get it
I don't think we need any more core sets than what we have now. Ace packs on the other hand... I would love to see a bunch more of those.
The original core set was out of print, but it's not massively hard to find. It's also shipping again soonish(tm) so it'll be even easier to find. A second edition for the sake of a couple more OT ships that are already available separately would be utterly wasted. You're more likely to find an aces pack of X/Y on the horizon, or (yet another) new core to tie in with the next movie.
Campaign expantion that fixes everything is my hope.

Because I'm sick of buying **** I can't use to get things I want. A new Core Set would no doubt have new TIE pilots that I would want to have. That would come packaged with 1(or 2 as you suggest) ships that aren't even for my faction and a ton of core pieces and rulebooks that I have two of already, which is already one more than I needed.

Then your ACTUAL solution is to print more of the original core set. Not to create another useless core set.
May be next year we can have the possibility to have a new kind of core set, Runewars miniatures give a nice idea, what I would like to see :
A box with damage cards, attack and defense dice (3 each), a range ruler, and maneuver templates, generics upgrades cards (proton torpedoes, wired ect...) and rulebook.
Remember Scums have to buy a core set just for accessories and not for the miniatures, with this every new players can choose to play quickly with their faction they want. Useful for people who lost some elements and don't want to paid again a full price core set.
And
A box with : 2 tie fighters, 1 x-wing and 1 Rihkxyrk, Pilots cards, upgrades cards (10) Maneuver dials, tokens and missions sheets.
If a new player want a taste for each faction, missions sheet for people who love this.
A veteran can add more pilots to his/her personal collection without spend a full core set (no more useless accessories).
Easily for duplicate purchases.

We could do with a "revised and updated" OT version so new players have the TFA updates: damage deck, rule book (even the TFA version is outdated now so it'd need a further update) and templates with the new manoeuvres on them. I wouldn't want a second edition core with new cards or ships. You, and your fellow rebel scum, can get your Y-Wing fix through the expansions.
Click bait thread is click bait.
The original core set is at the printers right now. I expect it on shelves by the Christmas season.
The big question is, will it be an exact reprint of the original set or will they make any updates?

Probably be packed with the rules booklet and damage deck from TFA set, otherwise same missions, same cardboard, same ships and broken or useless upgrades. (Biggs and R2-D2 vs Marksmanship and R2-F2....yeah....)

On top of that: The Y-Wing stands no chance against two TIE-Fighters. So you would needed to include three TIE-Fighters and 2 Y-Wings in the box. The X-Wing + 2 TIEs is the optimal beginner experience. No need to change that, still a revised core set would be nice.

I would prefer a Campaign Box, instead, with all new cards and [OPTIONALLY] some minis (need to be repainted).*
What I would love to see:
- Blue Squadron X-Wing, with Rogue One pilots and an X-Wing title ("fix") + Y-Wing, with new elite pilots (there are still many Rebel Y-Wing canon pilots left)
- TIE Striker, with "heavy loadout" modification, adding bombs (and maybe also crew and/or cannon) + 2 TIE Fighters (Inferno Squadron?) OR 1 TIE Bomber (with "bomber title")
- OPTIONAL: new damage deck, range rulers, updated manual and all the stuff needed to play it without a starter box.
*it could be a campaign box without any miniature (like the Armada's Corellian Conflict), as long as it adds new pilot and upgrade cards.

OT gift set, with:
X-wing, Y-wing, A-wing, B-wing
or
TIE Fighter, Advanced, Bomber, interceptor
with good upgrades (Autothrusters, PTL, Stealth device, IA, Chips, titles and ship specific upgrades, etc.) 45 bucks
also a TIE Swarm pack with three TIE Fighters. All TIE pilots from the expansion and gozanti? Choice of grey or blue. 30 bucks.
all these have missions/campaigns as well
Core rules packaged with rocks, templet, dice, range ruler, damage deck. Maybe a few tokens. 10 bucks?

Scarif Campaign set would be really cool
The campaign box for Armada was fantastic, and great value even if you just wanted the cards within, honestly. They could easily follow that suit and, rather than include any ships at all - which would drive the price up significantly - just include alternate pilots for various ships. The Armada box came with one "unique generic" and one unique pilot for each primary squadron (IE, not Rogues and Villains) that was out at the time, which was eight pilots total.
X-wing, obviously, has more than that, but it'd be a nice way to give select ships a bump, and throw in some unique upgrades to boot. Maybe a couple of titles to promote flying squadrons of the same ship both within the campaign, and the main game.
Sounds more like you guys want a X-wing Campaign box moreso than a new core box

I sure do. With some sort of buff for the T-65 and Y-Wing.
You know what would be great? A new core set with a totally revised damage deck that incorporates years of lessons learned and is simply better than the existing deck. Then they could, like, make that new and better-balanced deck mandatory for competitive events and--oh.
Oh, that's right.

Well, it's just the OP that wants a new core. I don't think anyone else really wants one at all. There's some desire for a new X/Y aces pack maybe, but that's about as far as it goes for the "old guard" ships. A campaign box, on the other hand, is exactly what pretty much all of the community has been calling for since the Armada campaign pack was announced, which could also do the "old guard" refresh through cards.

+1
The standard TIE fighters and X-Wings could use an updated paint job (in original release colors.) The original release paint quality has nothing on what's currently releasing.
The new set doesn't even need anything new outside of the deck, rules, tokens and whatever else has changed.
That said, if they wanted to include a balancing fix for the TIE fighter and X-Wing.... Just saying... Seems like a pretty good place for the fix.

I agree the painting today is much better than it was in the beginning (just put an ARC side-by-side with the X-Wings), but I really prefer a box with all new cards (and new painting schemes) than getting doubles for the cards I already own.
