[Article] Empire at War - Top Five Most Wanted

By Whingewood, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hi everyone! This is our first article on Tabletop Timesinks, and in it we talk about each of our five most wanted cards from Empire at War.

Currently, the website is absolutely bare-bones, but our plan is to improve that over time as well as produce written content on a regular basis, including card discussions, deck ideas, and tournament reports (some of you may have read my tournament reports in the past, so you already know how detailed they will be).

Please give this article a read and let us know what you think.

Cheers!

Great analysis guys! I agree with Jaydee - I want to see vehicles used for something other than Poe specials!

I agree with all of your choices - those cards are awesome! You guys also mentioned my favorite of the set - Ancient Lightsaber! That is one awesome card, in my opinion! That's my most wanted.

Thanks for the article! Keep up the good work!

Thanks! We're glad that you enjoyed the article. As for Ancient Lightsaber, it's definitely going to be the chase card of the set.

We've also got at least two more articles coming up next week. One is coverage of our local prerelease event, and the other will be the results of the UK Nationals, but we'll be posting links on here once those are completed.

Curious why ancient lightsaber is such a favorite. Its a good card and I see the potential in some circumstances for it to be great. It only cost 2 resources, can be searched for with lightsaber pull, and has +3melee side. Its action can come through in a pinch but is a bit situational in my opinion. Am i going to put the card on the bottom of my deck for 2 health in most circumstances? No. If i need 2 health to survive a stack of damage coming at me though it could make the difference between victory and defeat (see next paragraph). Just wondering if you can think of some interaction that I'm missing that takes it to the next level.

I did play me Benbar deck this morning and had a situation where anchient lightsaber would have probably made the difference. Had 7 health left on my eBen, opponent had 2 left on his eGrievous. He rolled exactly 7 damage and there was nothing i had in my hand that could mitigate it. In that case AL would have possibly kept me alive to roll all my ben plus upgrade dice and finish him off. Kind of answered my own question there but still curious what else i might be missing.

One resource for two heal is a great deal, and what most other cards charge. That basically makes the upgrade only cost 1, and it's a great dice. It can also be used to avoid mill, because you ca bounce it back to the deck at the end of the round in which you would be milled.

Also, just an FYI, in that situation with Obi Wan, it's usually best to have at least one card in your deck that says "resolve a die" (such as Decisive Blow). Then when Grievous thinks he can kill you, you just roll in, and if you roll the 3-melee, you can kill him "before Obi-Wan would be defeated"!

Yeah those are some good points. I guess it's the versatility of it that makes it great. And I didn't think about the fact that you can use the heal action at the end of a round after you've rolled the AL and used it's die. Then heal up, especially if opponent has claimed the battlefield.

And yeah I did have a bunch of cards in my deck that could have changed things, including shields and heals and dice removal. Just didn't have any in my hand at the moment I needed them.

Thanks for the response

Very nice. Short, quick, and solid. Good Job and hope to see more :)
