Is there a viable high PS Rebel Alpha Strike list?

I've been listening to the latest 186th podcast where my friend Dale talks about his top 4 finish in the French Nationals (well done again mate!) and his list sounds great, it's basically Vader, Kestrel and Quickdraw with VI and Cruise Missiles.

My question is this, is there a viable rebel alternative (3 ships, ps10/11, alpha strike)? I'm not sure there is to be honest but thought I'd ask the question :)

I don't think there is. It doesn't fit the rebel playstyle at all.

This Miranda, Cracken, and Jan Ors alpha won a regional not so long ago..

I would try (and fail) with something like this at 97pt:

Wedge Antilles (29)
Intensity(2), Proton Torpedoes (4), BB-8 (2), Guidance Chips (0)

Airen Cracken (19)
Veteran Instincts (1), Homing Missiles (5), Guidance Chips (0)

Wes Janson (29)
Veteran Instincts (1), Plasma Torpedoes (3), R3-A2 (2), Guidance Chips (0)

Wes strips tokens and stresses, Airen gives Wedge fully modded attack and Wedge deals the final blow. You can expect to roll 10-11 damage. Of course it depends on the target, but you'll blow one away or hit it hard. A bonus damage if you use Harpoons as soon as they arrive due to the crit by Wedge

You basically have to use A Wings, Y Wings and T65s to get 3 ships shooting, none of which have any long-term chops after the alpha, unlike Vader and QD. I doubt it's viable.

Exactly.

That's the main problem with ImpAlpha, and there you have amazing ships. Still not easy though.
RebelAlpha needs ships and pilots that are nowhere to be seen in the meta (who plays A-Wings?! Other-than-TLT Y-Wings? Other-than-Biggs X-Wings?)

Blount is a lot more likely to survive with VI than Elusiveness.

Probably. I had the Idea that in a ps 10+ meta the difference between 6 and 8 doesn't matter that much. Would need testing.

Veteran Instincts is not enough for Blount in this kind of list.

No, sort of... tycho can throw a good cruise missile especially backed by Jan, but most of the good high ps rebels use torps, so you need a way to get a focus action and a target lock whilst having vi, which basically means using Ashoka to,provide the free target lock... it's basically designing a whole list just to take one shot and then you're left with three mediocre ships.

Tycho/Wes/Jan is my best attempt so far. Wes strips defence, Tycho takes a six dice shot and Jan TLTs what's left.

I also designed a PS11 Han with cruise and PS11 Poe and plasmas but I think that's just silly ;)

Dash and Miranda are still a bit part of the meta, getting up to 8 is still worthwhile.

Yeah - I think Harpoons might be a nice option. But regardless, if you want three high PS 'attack' missiles, Airen Cracken is practically a given; as the cheapest PS8 missile carrier in the game, he's a good place to start.

I've seen a Wedge/Horton/Airen list do okay.

Not in the vein of what you are looking for.

What you will be looking for is a torpedo with the new design philosophy that gave us harpoons

Rebels might well do better with low PS survivability.... Y or B wings running with Ashoka or .Blount to provide target locks and just weathering those first shots might actually be an easier strategy. Come to think if it, an advanced sensors B-wing isn't all that different from a Scurgg ;)

Also, green squadron pilots with cruise missiles and crack shot. Tl on the approach, k turn then shoot ;)

If you want to do a high PS alpha strike, yes.

Not all strategies are available to all factions.

Can't hurt to open your mind and widen your horizons ;) - personally, I find that when I play things I usually don't play, it has two effects: It shows me new ways to approach the game (thus widening my options even when I go back to my favorite lists), and it shows me weaknesses in those lists that I might never see when I only play against them, because my opponents never make the silly mistakes with them that I inevitably make.
