Wookie Commandos

By DanteStorm, in X-Wing Squad Lists

When I first saw wookie comandos I felt it was a meh upgrade, for two crew slots, and only reroll eyes when attacking... I wasn’t sure... then, in another post, someone (sorry I don’t remember your name) suggested this as a filler:

VCX-100: Lothal Rebel (42)
Collision detector (0)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Total: 42/100

For some reason.... I loved it, it's a poor man's FCS if you're short on points/need your system slot/don't need your crew slots... so since then I've been making "crazy" lists (my favorite kind of lists) with wookie comandos, I have yet to try the upgrade itself, since I've been training with my Dengar/Nym for an upcoming tournament.... but here they are, not saying they are effective btw, but comment at wil!

VCX-100: Lothal Rebel (49)
Engine Upgrade (4)
•Ghost (0)
Reinforced Deflectors (3)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Attack Shuttle: •"Zeb" Orrelios (18)
•Phantom (0)
•"Chopper" (0)

K-Wing: Warden Squadron Pilot (33)
•Bomblet Generator (3)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Twin Laser Turret (6)

Total: 100/100

In here you could remove the Warden and EU to out Miranda with TLT and Rey.

T-70 X-Wing: •Jess Pava (28)
Integrated Astromech (0)
•R2-D6 (1)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Adaptability (-1) (0)

U-Wing: Blue Squadron Pathfinder (24)
Collision detector (0)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

U-Wing: Blue Squadron Pathfinder (24)
Collision detector (0)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

U-Wing: Blue Squadron Pathfinder (24)
Collision detector (0)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Total: 100/100

I know you could put biggs instead of jess but I prefer jess, fun wise.

TIE Fighter: •Captain Rex (17)
•Sabine's Masterpiece (1)
•Jan Ors (2)

YT-1300: Resistance Sympathizer (42)
Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
•Millennium Falcon (1)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

YT-1300: Resistance Sympathizer (41)
Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Total: 100/100

This one is kinda of a stretch, even for fun.... pretty sure it'll crumble becase of low damage output.

Auzituck Gunship: Kashyyyk Defender (25)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Auzituck Gunship: Kashyyyk Defender (25)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Auzituck Gunship: Kashyyyk Defender (25)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Auzituck Gunship: Kashyyyk Defender (25)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Total: 100/100

Reinforce every turn, pray your dice don't fail you.

Scurrg H-6 Bomber: Captain Nym (47)
Engine Upgrade (4)
•Havoc (0)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
•Bomblet Generator (3)

YT-1300: •Han Solo (52)

•Millennium Falcon (1)
Adaptability (+1) (0)
Wookiee Commandos (1)

Total: 99/100

A different Han... not sure it's any good...

Thank you if you've read this far, I still think Wookie Comandos might not be that good competitively (maybe except in the list that went to gencon final) but you can make pretty crazy lists with it.

I flew 3 naked imperial firesprays against 4 wookie wagons with wookie commandos, and won in a nail biter with 3 hull remaining on my last firespray. It was stupid fun to play against.

Not sure what that says, but as a crew card its suprisingly effective at pushing through damage.

Huge fan of your 3 u wing list :)

I proxied the Wookies in casual play for a TLT Ghost pretty early after they were previewed and it felt really strong. Rerolling Focus results is statistically half as effective as a focus token. On a four-shot Ghost, that's kind of the equivalent of 2 actions worth of dice mods, roughly the same as 2 target locks from FCS. For the sensor slot, Collision Detector is a great cheap option, and Reinforced Deflectors have a lot of potential, I'm really interested in trying it again with Advanced Sensors and Engine Upgrade. You'll have an Evade when you have to bump or fly over a rock or take a red move, or you can do some crazy things with boosting before moving. How about an 8-speed K-Turn?

I feel like a Wookies Ghost has to either be as cheap as possible, or leverage the Sensor slot as much as possible, or else it'd just be better to run Accuracy Corrector. I've loved flying Navigator/C-3PO Hera, but last tournament, she wound up moving first each game (low pilot skill, or given initiative against Dash), so I felt like I was wasting some combination of 8 points and a crew slot. I've been thinking about dropping down to Chopper or a Lothal Rebel, and then swapping Navigator for Chewbacca (strong crit prevention). Wookies + RD is pretty similar to an AccC build with defensive crew--offensive reliability with extra defenses--and I'm not sure which is best. Wookies is slightly cheaper compared to one defensive crew, AccC is going to have a fair bit stronger TLT offense, so it comes down to how often Reinforced Deflectors will trigger in a game. The theoretical maximum is 7 times, but realistically it won't be that many, particularly if you're taking evade tokens.

I've tried the two casual lists below, once each, and it was a lot of fun:

Wullffwarro (Adaptability/Trick Shot)

Lowhhrick (Trick Shot)

Chewbacca [original-no crits] (Trick Shot)

100 points

Kashyyyk Defender (Wookiee Commandos)

Wookiee Liberator (Trick Shot, Wookiee Commandos)

Resistance Sympathizer (Chewbacca, Gunner, Millenium Falcon [evade])

100 points
