The original assault gunboat..
Really? Cos it says shuttle on the box, not Gunboat
They are different ships made by Cygnus Spaceworks.
Jesus Christ people, it's a joke.

Indeed. Admittedly, not a good one on my part.. but it is what I see.
Ah yes, the Kenner mini-rigs. I remember those oddities.

I never knew there was a Star Wars / Wacky Races crossover. I'd watch that all the time.
But if we're talking random Kenner stuff, I want my dang Cruisemissile Trooper . They're canon I guess?

Oh boy, I have one of those at home. That toy line got a bit nutty at the end.

You never saw Phantom Menace?
This is a GUNBOAT:
This is a Lambda Shuttle:
They are both very cute and fun in tiny LEGO form, so I see the similarity. They are definitely different ships though.

Some of those eventually gained RPG stats as I certainly remember that "interceptor" on the bottom row from the DarkStryder campaign. Some of them maybe aren't terrible (at least with Star Wars in mind) although others are clearly meant to borrow heavily from other, much more recognizable, things.

Several of those are clearly miniature versions of larger craft, but some of them I can't even imagine what a full size version could possibly look like or how it would function. The Interceptor with a huge, drooping mustache? The CAP-2 (?) apparently holding onto a guy (prisoner?) in some sort of claw thing?
I also like how the names vary between incredibly descriptive (Endor Forest Ranger, Desert Sail Skiff) and lettered designations that give absolutely no clue as to their purpose unless you're already familiar with the nomenclature ( "No, Dad! I wanted the MTV-7, not the MLC-3!" )

My childhood, NOOOOO!!!!
why?
actually I loved all those goofy minirigs, they were a lot of fun. Not ever Hoth Trooper could have a Taun Taun so they have had to make do with a MLC (or mobile laser Cannon). ISP-6, you can be a prototype GUNBOAT if you want to, I don't mind.

Yeah I really like that they were probably dumb things like PDT-8 stands for Protocol Droid Transport.... like anything like that would actually exist... yes this is the 8th version of our speeder line designed specifically to relocate protocol droids.

...with two MASSIVE cannons, apparently. Either we're transporting protocol droids through the front lines deep into enemy territory, or else those jawas are starting to get out of hand...
Did you know? There are instructions out there to convert this:
into this!
And it was in the official LEGO Brickmaster magazine! Sadly, I lost my copy of that issue when I moved.
Crushed.
EDIT: Somebody else's screenshot of the first page of instructions

Apparently Gun-Boat fanatics are a little too defensive about their fetish-ship...

Well, you know. Whatever floats our...gunBOAT!

I wish my younger self had had the dough to afford Brickmaster... now I really wish I knew what the fluff text was for that model! (The text to the left of the instructions).

Oooo, it's the XG-3, that's awesome, the GUNBOAT had at least two more iterations! Gots extra guns on the wings too! Moar boom boom ? ?!
GUNBOATS FOREVER! Can't wait for the next gen GUNBOAT flown by the First Order.
i mean, we will see a GUNBOAT in the new movies, right? Right?

Time to go find an official Disney forum and spam it with hundreds of pages of posts demanding an official canonical GUNBOAT. That's what works, right?
HERESY
I say we ask Fractalsponge very politely to make a rendering of the XG-3 version. Time to think up some stat lines and stuff!

The ATL- interceptor was actually an original design, and a ship I really wouldn't mind making an appearance in xwing (obviously in the minority on this one).
At one point, if memory serves me right, it was pegged to be a ship that defended the Death Star, but eventually made its way into being a rebel ship in the DROIDS cartoon and in other legends material.
