The Chains That Rust, Unquiet Memories: Blocking pit spaces

In the TCTR encounter "Unquiet Memories" the heroes have to escort NPCs into pit spaces. But what if a large monster's base is covering that pit space, or a zombie is standing inside the pit space - in these cases the space would be blocked and the NPC cannot enter before the monster is removed, right?

I do not have access to my quest guide at the moment, so I'm unsure exactly what the rules for the NPCs in that quest are. However, if the NPCs are treated as figures or if they otherwise block movement, you're correct. The exception to this would be if the NPCs follow monster rules for movement (in that they would treat monsters as friendly figures) but this would be spelled out.

In short, if the NPCs block movement, the pit has to be empty in order for an NPC to enter it.
