By BanthaFather, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Ran a Swarm Leader Jake list this weekend, and had a lot of fun with it. Made a couple of adjustments here and there, and ended up with this:

Prototype Pilot [Chardaan Refit] (15) x 3

Jake Farrell [A-Wing Test Pilot, Chardaan Refit, Swarm Leader, Shield Upgrade, Veteran Instincts] (30)

Airen Cracken [XX-23 S-thread Tracers, Adaptability, Shield Upgrade] (24)

Believe it or not, the Shield Upgrade was really nice to have. Jake was pretty dodgy thanks to Airen, and the three Prototypes really pulled their weight. Probably the coolest thing was being able to give a prototype an evade off of Airen's attack, and then immediately us it for Jake's attack. Thread tracers made for a very nice initial round of combat, and I was able to put a lot of damage through. Ended up 1-1 for the night, and plan on trying the list out again tonight at the local store, so I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm still new to swarm lists, but this was fun. The A-Wings are really good at closing in on a target, and I had a lot of opportunities to block and disrupt my opponent. This certainly isn't a meta list, since A-Wings are still very fragile, and cost more than TIEs, but there's some nice synergy here that I would like to exploit a bit more.

If you had to fly four A-Wings+, how would you build the list? Let me know what you guys think.

That looks pretty good! My only concern is the Shield Upgrade. Now, I'm not usually one to run with the crowd, but groupthink says that Autothrusters are just better than a shield because you have the chance to cancel more than 1 damage. If you dropped both Shield Upgrades, you would have enough for Autothrusters on each of your A-wings. Of course, if I were to fly it, I'd keep the Shields because I only own 2 copies of Autothrusters. And there is an argument to be made for Shield Upgrade now that bombs are a common source of damage. Interesting take on a 4 A-wings+. I would probably lean on Crack Shot or Juke to bump up the A-wings' damage, but I like the uniqueness of your squad a lot.

Thanks Parakitor,

A-Wings are really fun to fly, so I am looking for a couple of ways to get mine back on the table. Bombs are the #1 reason that I have Shields loaded, up, but you're right about the math on Autothrusters. The other thing that I noticed with the list, is that it does alright with charging in at the top of the game--in that situation Autothrusters are a bit moot.

Just to generate some more interest, I'm toying with this list too:

Prototype Pilot [Chardaan Refit] (15) x 3

Rey [Veteran Instincts, Kanan Jarrus, Finn, Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop Version)] (55)

I've kind of fallen in love with Airen or Ahsoka with Jake...particularly Intensity Jake. Being able to give an action during combat to a reposition ace can lead to some "what just happened" reactions from you opponent.

I've run something similar, think I had Expertise on Rey with a bandit and two prototype A's. The A's would server as blockers and the bandit would even serve as a blocker for Rey sometimes...she didn't care much due to Experise. It worked pretty well, from what I recall, but that was a couple waves ago.

So here is a favorite of mine, run PTL A in for the block with a boost and and an evade, Snap/Juke A right behind that one to catch the ship blocked, and then Chewie floats around taking advantage of the work the A's put in. Not exactly Meta-Busting, but fun to fly and when flown well can really mess with most any other casual/teir 3 list

Falcon/A-Wings (100)

Green Squadron Pilot (23) - A-Wing

Snap Shot (2), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Juke (2)

Green Squadron Pilot (23) - A-Wing

Push The Limit (3), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Wired (1)

Chewbacca (54) - YT-1300

Predator (3), Gunner (5), •C-3PO (3), •Millennium Falcon (1)

Also, you could fly four of these A's with AutoThrusters for 100pts.

If PTL A gets the block, then Snap/Juke A has a good chance to squeeze in some damage

Rethinking the list a bit, and wanting to see how well the U-Wing does with the A swarm. Lot's of room for improvement, so let me know what you think, and how you might pair the U with the As.

Prototype Pilot [Chardaan Refit] (15) x 3

Jake Farrell [A-Wing Test Pilot, Chardaan Refit, Veteran Instincts, Swarm Leader] (26)

Cassian Andor [Rage, Collision Detector, Inspiring Recruit, Pivot Wing] (29)

This puts more dice on the table, and more health to chew through. It also makes turning the swarm around a lot easier, as I have some ways of getting rid of stress.
