Its 100% completely well meaning.
I mean, for example - I never disagreed with the Data. I just disagreed with the conclusion that quite a few people were making. That was, for lack of a better term (and I apologise for harshness due to paraphrasing): "The game is broken and you are stupid if you don't see it."
Mostly because, yeah, there were some things that were a concern. For sure. But "broken" for me is not something that can be fixed, and at least now, we're seeing that changes and evolution and new waves have, at least for the short term, started to make turnarounds. There's a way to go. But in the very least, it is a time to be positive. Things are getting better.
And I was just commenting, mate, that, at least in my own personal point of view, I had you pegged as someone who was a naysayer - someone who wouldn't hesitate to take the raw data and only present it in a single negative light in order to advance their own point of view. I wasn't convinced it was the case. I would have called you on that if I did. I'm really glad I didn't, because basically, that would have been heaping wrong on wrong.
So yeah, just a comment that, at the very least, I am happy to see you - if not happy - at least seeing the turnaround we're all going on, and taking it as a positive move, and not a negative nay-say. Because we know, we've had our shares of them, after all ![]()
Plus, its a time for me to admit, truthfully, that yes: I was wrong.
I was wrong in making the assumption - even if only to myself - that you were someone who was going to be negative for the sake of being negative.
So I do say so sincerely, without sarcasm... Its good to be wrong.
Well I appreciate that very much, @Drasnighta. Here's to hoping we only rub off wrongly on each other in good humor. =)
Definitely feels like a golden age for the game itself. However, the new hotness of 40k changes combined with "life happens" type stuff and some players seemingly just losing interest in the wake of wave 5/6 seems to have for the moment hobbled the scene here. Sadly, despite the renewed interest for many in what was IMO rapidly becoming a really stale game; it isn't really translating to more games. One store I go to used to regularly have 4-5 games going every Armada night, lately it seems we are lucky if there are two or three. Hopefully when it starts to get cold it will pick back up.

That's unfortunate, but with the cold season approaching it'll probably pick back up. We lost a long time player over the spring/summer. I'm hoping he returns as it gets colder.
We've had a pretty consistent group for awhile. I like the options and how much variation there are in lists. I would be totally fine if they ended the line after wave 7 because there's so much to play with. I think I've only put the Raider on the table three times for instance and almost none of the Rebel stuff has seen table time.
Is this the golden age? Not to me. Give the game 10 years (whether or not they're still printing stuff) and I'll have 3 willing recruits to the game and I'll never have to leave my house to play. That's the golden age to me.
I don't know if we are. I'm definitely concerned that Legion my attract more of my limited hobby dollars in 2018. Locally people have been bailing on Armada (fee that had sets but didn't play) and X Wing. It's possible that I'll be changing gears if that game is fun and actually is played locally.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Locally there's not much interest in Armada. X-Wing still seems to have a solid following but I just started with it and am not sure I'll stick with it. It's not a bad game but in my opinion it's not a great one either. Legion though has a lot of people, myself included, hyped to try it out. If it's as fun to play as it looks it'll definitely take over X-Wing's spot in my budget but I'll still keep up with Armada even if I can only find a game every couple of months.
Not until this repaint:

I would like to think so. I think that just from an interest standpoint it's alot easier to get newer players into the game. It was reeeeeeeeeeeeellly hard to try and get some one to try it out in the beginning. Now there are many ships, OT, rouge one, rebels. With the increased variation in ships it makes it easier. IE well that's kinda cool do they have ship X? Yes?! Awesome! I want to try it out!
On the game balance front wide variety is always a good thing. You start seeing some pretty cool fleet builds, that can really challenge you and give some really depth to your community.
I hope it can only get better. I also hope they learn from the other wargames, including ffg own games to avoid the pitfalls that they have fallen into. But I think there on the money and will be for a long while.
Funny, I'm on the cusp of hanging up my admirals cap. I am glad to see so many people still having fun with it though, that's always nice to see ![]()

I find one problem with this game... since maneuverability tends to matter less... One of the problems is that build designs seem to hinge around how you use your activations, how much power you can stuff into one activation. There's serious min-maxing. I'm glad Rieekan was killed and made the game less stagnant, but overall, there's not a lot of reason to play different ships if you can simply find the most efficient way to power your activations.
In Xwing, I really only play to run completely new play styles or play with the most maneuverable weird ships, like the Tie Striker. Everything else is boring and the same. You put the guns on target and fire. Meeeeeeh. Tie Strikers though... are a lesson in running into rocks head first twice a game. Love it. I'm bad at it, but I could be better. That's what I want in a game.
