R4-D6

By Spellscape, in X-Wing Rules Questions

HI all

Maybe I'm late to party nowadays - but how to correctly use R4-D6 on Biggs (only recently got droid)

I'm fairly new to competitive scene in X-Wing

Its pretty simple really. If Biggs is attacked and the attacker scores more than three uncancelled hits, you can cancel those hits until there are only two remaining.

Lets say somebody fires a HLC at Biggs and scores 4 hits. Biggs rolls his evades and blanks out; meaning the attacker has made 4 uncancelled hits. Biggs can take two stress tokens to cancel two of those hits. Meaning only two actually go through and deal damage.

Remember however, it only works with hits. Critical hits <kabooms> do not trigger R4-D6. So if you get hit by a 4 dice attack and they're all crits (unlucky!) then the droid is useless.

Exactly two remaining not less than, but other than that yeah exactly that.

Basically Biggs main job is to add survivability to more valuable ships, so anything that can prolong his life is helpful. R4 can guarantee that Biggs never takes more than 2 hits on any given attack. It's a good way to nullify an opponents large scale alpha strike (assuming they don't roll too many crits) for instance. Really, you should probably trigger the droid any time you are able to to maximize Biggs life he's going to die pretty fast anyway more than likely so multiple stressing him isn't too big of a deal.

Sorry, yes. Only two remaining. Not sure what the **** I typed there.

But also remember that it's uncancelled hits.

So if you take 4 hits, you roll your green dice (and will cancel off any hits they evade) and will add in anything else which generates evade results (evade tokens, reinforce tokens, whatever), and only if you have more than 2 non-critical hits left after this can you use R4-D6.

Mostly he works by being a 1 point astromech you can chuck to Integrated Astromech. Occasionally he also cancels a damage or two.

He's pretty good when facing 5-dice attacks or Heavy Laser cannons (because of the reduced odds of criticals) - I see quite a few cruise missiles, Dash Rendar and Fenn Rau a lot recently.

I agree that he's mostly just the cheapest option currently going to give you integrated astromech, but he's actually got a bit more useful recently as big-dice attacks keep turning up.

Since my dice hate me, R4-D6 has been useful. Had a couple of games where Biggs started to look like Tycho's little brother.
