I actually know the ruling since Gaffa got the answer, but I was using it as an example, and the ruling is that SoK cannot trigger the initiates, as it loses the air trait when it goes from contested -> claimed.

So it comes down to timing and when certain things resolves. Good to know as I am still familiarizing myself with the rules.
