Now that I know it's a huge fighter on a small stand, I just can't get this image out of my head for Imperial squadron formations in 2018:

Man, That P-38 is ugly, but it was fast and agile!

You hold your tongue knave! The P-38 is a beautiful aircraft!

I was about to say the same thing. APPARENTLY someone hates innovation and apple pie ![]()
Lol. I agree Mayhem. I prefer the smooth lines of a Bf-109k
I do like apple pie though lol
Given the colour scheme I'd think comparing it to the P-61 is more apt - besides, the P-61 is prettier than the P-38, fight me.

Die in a fire.
If it's ugly but effective, it's not ugly.

My father served in the Air Force in the early 50's. He did non-engine repairs on jets (fuselage, landing gear and mainly exterior parts). For training purposes, he worked on a few P-38's and P-61's and said they were a PITA to repair as they used stainless steel for the body; and small pieces at that. IMO they are ugly, but they were fast. ( The first American plane to fly over 400 mph in level flight).

That doesn't surprise me at all.

And don't forget very well armed!
Ernie Pyle in one of his books relates how a P-38, flying low, came over a hill. The pilot found himself lined up with a bunch of enemy soldiers standing in a chow line. He hit the guns and killed about 30 IIRC. Kept going and never looked back.
Also, if you ever get down to the museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, look for the poem some bomber guy wrote about the "beautiful sight" a flight of P-38s.

The forked-tail devil will eat your 109. Besides, you need to talk about bf 110s to stay in the same class.
The P-38 was flown by Lindberg, and got Yamamoto. On top of being dead sexy.
Anyhoo, when I'm not busy painting XWM:

I disagree. The A-10 is absolutely awesome at what it does (and is by far my favorite warplane of all time), but it's still ugly.
P-38s, though, definitely have a beautiful elegance in their strangeness.
I prefer mine with bent wings:

Although like the F4U-1a, the P-38 is also a very elegant aircraft, for a more civilized age.
And gameplay wise, I think you're gonna be able to squeeze about 3 TIE silencers in 100 points if you're not running the super kylo build. There's always epic though!

Gorgeous work. Really like the detail work with the nose art and stickers - those suckers are tricky!
... not sure about your claims of eating the 109s, though - they didn't do nearly so well in Europe as people had hoped.
Booooo!
Messerschmitt rules.
I don't understand the OP. Why does the Silencer make him think about that plane?

Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Because the Silencer is like a very big TIE Interceptor. Sorta like a twin engine fighter vs. a single engine fighter.
The P-38 seems pretty familiar to me, because it's what every single American airplane in any of the Hasbro Axis and Allies games is!
It's also my favorite in the iPhone app version of 1942 (the video game). That being said, the noticeable difference to me is that the P-38 was a lot more common than the Silencer most likely is and usually wasn't painted all black... and the Silencer has a much more pointy appearance. To me, the Silencer is more reminiscent of one of Skunk Work's planes, or perhaps the Boeing stealth bomber.
There is still only one visual comparison for the Tie Silencer that makes sense to me.

Huh. Now I'm envisioning them going all Twin Mustang with the Interceptor as some sort of long-range escort fighter.
Though that just raises the question of what the Rebel pilot slang for it would be, since "dupe" is already taken for TIE Bombers...
I think Twin Mustang is the TIE Bomber! The TIE Bomber is actually terribly named, because it only has one bomb slot but tons of ordnance, so it's more of a heavy fighter than a bomber anyway...

in the TIE Fighter PC game, I far preferred flying a TIE Bomber to flying the standard TIE Fighter.
Though, I still find the dual-cockpit, hyperspace-capable Interceptor idea appealing, for some reason.
