2nd (or is it 3rd) gen fighter pack?

By Grand Admiral Buford, in Star Wars: Armada

So X-wing just got two more fighter (ish) models. Silencer and the B/SF-17. Add in the other TIE FO variants and the T-70 and troop transport, we are close to enough fighters for another fighter pack. Any thoughts people? How can the new fighters differentiate themselves from existing ships without screwing up the existing meta?

Rather not introduce resistance and FO stuff.

Not a huge fan of the new movie ships but the mouse will make it happen. Embace your hatred, it will make you stronger.

I'd rather take a break from squads for a while I just feel like we have so many now. I was bummed to see the Resistance bomber in X-wing. From the trailer I was hoping it was more of a Corvette sized capital ship. I'm not against new Trilogy stuff in Armada but I haven't seen much that would fit well, maybe the Raddis but it's twice as big as Home One.

I'm completely the opposite. I'd rather introduce sequel stuff than tarnish the game with creeping in prequel trilogy. If the game is to keep going, it also needs to embrace the new films.

No sir. I rather have actually good looking, original ships from the prequels than those ugly-as-sin looking First Order abominations. Just give us the imperial Venator finally! Acclamator is also a possibility, we saw it in Empire at War and some comics still beeing in imperial service and for the rebels theres still plenty of choices from the OT and EU. Brahatok Flotillas, the Assault Frigate MK I, and the Mc40 would be a great aquivalent to the quasar so that rebels have a dedicated carrier too... We are not yet THAT desperate for new ships in armada that we have to put those stupid carbon copy ships from the new movies in the game.

I'd like to see some U-Wings at least.

Wow, really guys? I love the First Order stuff and the Resistance. I'm dying to see the Resurgent come to the game!

The Clone Wars never interested me, personally. Even the Venator doesn't thrill me as much as the New-age Star Destroyer angle the Resurgent is rocking pretty hard. The First Order dreadnought is disappointing and the Supremacy is too big, but I can't help wondering what else is going to show up in the film that we haven't seen yet. Escort ships? New bombers and smallcraft? The preview tells us a massive space battle is coming and there will be combatants in it. I'd like to see them and play with those craft. I'd like to move forward, not backward.

I'd certainly pay more attention to the flashy Resistance offerings than just second-hand separatist ships that aren't even formally aligned with the Rebellion. Apart from the Venator , what else does the ex-Republic have to offer the Empire now anyway except V-Wings?

Sadly, I fear the arrival of a new box starter set with Episode 7-9 ships and fighter expansions is only a matter of time. The new starships are "inevitable" as far as fan demand and game growth, so it's really less likely that it's an issue of "if" and more "when." I expect they'll most likely do it in the same way they did X-Wing; a second box set that offers up the new designs, perhaps new rules, and upgrades that will keep "old" ships competitive in a world where they are now under-gunned.
I don't like the new designs, but I also expect that for the game to live on, they have to keep bringing new blood, be it by new ships, new rules, or repaints. While not a fan of most of the new designs, I'd prefer that to the game being awash with re-issued repaints with OP cards you need to stay competitive, or the makers just shrugging their shoulders one day and saying "Well, guess we're out of models to make. Next game!"

Not to mention that most of the prequel-era ships have the advantage of being around the same scale as the ships already in the game . The TLJ Raddus and TFA/TLJ Finalizer are both twice the length of an ISD - nevermind the First Order Dreadnought that dwarfs the Finalizer to such an extent that it can apparently dock to it. And let's not even talk about that ridiculous ship of Snoke's...

I think they will have to release the FO destroyer and some resistance capital ships before FO and resistance squadrons come into play.

That being said there is still a whole slew of X-wing ships that aren't Armada squadrons yet (not counting resistance and FO ships of course). Now that X-wing finally has the H6 Bomber there is no more starfighters that they have that X-wing doesn't.

I think they will eventually release an armada game for the new movies but they should not mix the new trilogy with the original. Keep them separate and people that are interested can collect that game .

Without making the huge leap to include New Trilogy stuff, that's about the only ship out there I think that's worth left to include, I've always thought scraping the barrel you couldn't even make a mixed pack like Rouges & Villains . I am shocked that the U-Wing wasn't included with the MC-75 , especially after we saw they included a single squadron with the Thrawn pack (a squadron no one was asking for, that just felt like an excuse to balance the wave if a U-Wing came with the MC-75 ). Since it's a Rouge One heavy expansion pack, including the U-Wing would have made sense thematically.

I'm sure smarter people then me have better ideas, but I'd like to see the U-Wing as Rouge (kinda has to given it's movie origins) but with Relay 2 , to balance out the advantage Imperial has with the Lambda Shuttle .

which is a shame because i like the design of snokes ship(the flying wing), too bad it's absurdly sized.

We might get some packs with single fighters in the future but another fighterpack seems unreasonable since they just announced the mandalorian fighter in the Chimaera expansion. I expect the U-Wing and maybe other squads to come out in a similar fashion.

There is not much left to fill a complete pack unless you go forward (this just doesn't mesh well with the so far released stuff) or backward (Clone Wars era repurposing is already a thing with the Y-Wings and Z-95s so an Arc might be in the cards) or you mash a new duo faction pack.

what is left to mayyybe publish:

Krennic's shuttle
The Phantom
The Phantom II
The Gunboat (can't believe I am writing this)
U-Wing
Tie-Striker
Sentinel-class shuttle
ARC-170 (very big maybe)

The stuff left is a bit shuttle/landingcraft heavy.

Tie aggressor

fang fighters

K-wings

As stupid as it seems, I wouldn't mind seeing a First Order/Resistance fighter wave. I know that's a little ridiculous, but I would like it none the less.

Never going to happen for one reason and one reason only: Yavaris. Relay 2 with Yavaris would be broken beyond all reason.

Not if they give us some kind of jammer upgrade or squadron key word. That would be kinda fun. An expensive squadron or a flotilla able to prevent enemy squadrons at distance 1-2 from activating with a squadron command.

Might do a dual faction fighter pack again. Krenniks shuttle, Imp Landing craft and 2 Strikers. 2 U-wings and what else?

Or bundle some small bits of plastic like fighters in another campaign (maybe rogue one focussed)?

Prequel trilogy and clone wars stuff can bite the dust as far as I'm concerned. Those films were gorgeous looking. The ships were interesting, and I loved how you could see the evolution from them to the OT stuff. There was a lot of great creative work there. But, I'm afraid that adding the ships would require a lot of the bad elements of the movies. Uninspiring characters, arguably racist characters, etc. This would all dredge up memories of some really lackluster acting.

New trilogy is going to happen. There is no reason to even try to avoid it. There is no way they are going to pass it up. They've including Rogue One and Rebels elements heavily into the game already. The new trilogy is going to be included. It's likely just a timing issue at this point. They don't want to start with Ep7 stuff and have giant gaps before they get to Ep9 stuff. I'm guessing we'll see a slow roll of new trilogy stuff coming to Armada in between 8 & 9. That way they can release some Wave 9 stuff in line with the movie.

If they ditch the movies and go with the clone wars TV show, there is a lot of good material there (as well as craplousy material). Though maybe I just want to see Admiral Trench

Honest to god...you could and should add the new trilogy and prequel trilogy of ships.

That right there is 4 factions worth of fun

I want to run some droid ships....a masssssssssssssssssssive swarm of Vulture droids would make the empire weep.
