Clawdite Shapeshifter First Impressions (Partial Elite Version Reveal!)

By brettpkelly, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Nice write up!

-ryanjamal

@brettpkelly I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but your write up references it. It sounds like you are suggesting that if there are 3 forms, then you could only have 3 Clawdites in a form, and no two Clawdites are able to take the same form at the same time. That would for sure be limiting (possibly purposefully). I guess I assumed that all Clawdites can take what ever form they darn well choose. Clawdites have rights too!

Enjoyed your insight and "reveal" of the elites. Definitely something to think about!

Glad you enjoyed the article! Props to @a1bert and @Uninvited Guest for pointing out to me that the form cards are unique and therefore you can only use one at a time. Definitely ruined my plans to run 4 at a time!

And there's the kicker. Well that certainly adds another element to consider haha.

Hm. If you read them by the letter, there wouldn't even be a reason to play more than 3 clawdites unless the last unrevealed Form isn't unique. They receive a Form at the beginning of the game, and then they may Switch forms. But they can't gain a Form if they haven't got one, it seems.

Except that those regular SS are going to die with only 6 health, surely you can use that 3rd form on your reserve shifter

Yeah, that is how it reads. They look to be pretty useless without a form. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that is a future errata, but it's hard to say if that's necessary before we see the rule book for HotE. I can't imagine there won't be a section touching on forms to clarify what we don't know. For example, this thought wouldn't apply if there is a rule saying that they're in a 'natural' form when no other forms are attached.

There's a whole rule book coming out and it would take roughly one line to allow it. I see no reason why they would devalue running multiples of the same unit. Swarms are what lead to duplicate sales.

Unless the final form isn't unique...

they might be a more campaign focused reason to have 4 (how often do you see regular rebel troops or sabs as opposed to the elite version)

So I do know this is a possibility (maybe even a likelyhood) and I've stated as much in the past, but those revealed are "senator" and "streetrat." I don't know what they could introduce that would be generic by comparison. "Man on the street?"

Well a clarification more than an errata. I think the simplest thing would be to say that a Clawdite without a Form Card still has a Form.

Man on the Street

You have no dice in your attack pool or your defense pool.

If you are not defeated at the end of the round, you gain 3 VP.

=> => Panic! - Perform a move. At the end of your movement, an adjacent friendly figure gains 1 BLOCK TOKEN.

I was thinking one of their forms could be a generic unit, like an Enforcer or Guard. But it does seem likely that it'll be unique as well.

I'm hoping for:

Bartender

You have no dice in your attack pool.

=> Wait Outside : Droids may not come within 4 spaces of you, because we don't serve their kind here.

=> Sorry About the Mess: Each friendly figure that is defeated within 4 spaces of you is worth 1 fewer VP.

How about:

Deathsticks Dealer

When attacking a figure with the Force User trait, that figure may pay 1 VP to apply +1 ⨉ to its defense results.

Go Home: Place your figure in an empty space in your deployment zone.

Rethink Your Life: Choose one: If you are in your deployment zone, you become focused. | Spend your focus token to gain 2 VP.

I'm 99% certain that the last unspoiled form card won't have anything to do with VPs because they're also intended to be used in campaign

I've been looking at the Clawdite Shapeshifter units and I think they are going to make a big splash in the meta. Spies in Mercenaries pair really well with a lot of the other things Mercs do. Here's an article with my impressions:

Holy Crap! Great find! I didn't even notice that when I was there.

The last form is "Scout". +2 Accuracy, a surge for +2 and a green, blue attack pool for regular or green, blue, yellow for elite. Pretty close to what I predicted!

Also this form is unique, so don't expect to see any lists with more than 2 or 3 of these guys.

Wow! Red, Green, Yellow attack dice for the elite? Also, the shapeshifter ability seems pretty cool.

Here's the odds of picking up at least the number surges listed of an eClawdite using Conspire (Red/Green/Yellow/Yellow)

1 - 95.37%
2 - 75.93%
3 - 43.29%
4 - 15.51%
5 - 3.01%
6 - 0.23%

And here's the regular Clawdite (Red/Green/Yellow):

1 - 86.11%
2 - 48.61%
3 - 13.89%
4 - 1.39%

You just couldn't resist eh? (Yes, I'm Canadian). Don't worry, I almost posted something similar, but then I realized that percentages are probabilities and not odds.
