Wishes, Wallets, and Wessels

So, given the grousing about the silencer's price point, I was just wondering how many of each release people typically buy. For me, its:

Small = 4-6 copies.

Large = 1-2 copies

Edit: For Imperials. I buy half as many as above for Rebels and Scum .

Usually I buy one. Only one. Some ships, mainly scum, I don't buy at all. Ships I enjoy or are largely thematic to the classic era I have four to eight. I think I need more T-65s for scenarios... Still only have four.

Unless there is something I really, really want to do, my general policy is to just get one of each expansion.

One of the large base but the IG2000 and Jumpmaster were exceptions with two. Small base ships usually two but there are exceptions there also. Z-95s, T-70s, T-65s and a couple of others were 3 or more.

1 less than what i "might"need in a list unless it's a torney prize.

Doesn't leave me out of pocket when fixes turn up

With the $29.95 price point for the Tie Silencer, I'm probably going to just buy one. Back in the early wave days I use to buy enough small ships to fill a 100PT with the lowest pilot skill. So, that was about 4-8 ships. Now a days I just buy about 2-3 small ships.

I used to try and buy close to 100pts per ship but the recent releases have made me cut back, there's nothing really spamable even in casual that's come out in the past few waves.

I can’t afford to spend that kind of cash. I own 3 properties and my wife is very frugal. The $300 I’ve already dumped into this game has her freaking out.

I play with 2 other people. One picked Scum, the other picked Imps leaving g me with the Rebals. I’ve acquired all of the rebel expansions and I doubled up on the A-Wong, E-Wing, ARC, and rebel aces. I have the new core set, so that with the Hero’s and T-70 Expansion Gabe me 3 T-70s. I took all the rebel stuff from my friend original core plus my Rebel Transport and X-Wong Expansion Gabe me 3 T-65s.

I also have have a few imperial and Scum expansions bought for specific cards and in case I want to casually want to play other factions, but I haven’t yet in the 3 months I’ve been playing.

Yep. That used to be my exact protocol. I slowed down not because of price, but because my squadron of TIE Interceptors was never going to be the ship I wanted it to be.

Now, I'll get a couple and test fly them. . .if they do well, I'll get more. I have fallen in love with the Baron of the Empire, and have a half-dozen TAPs now, whereas my original plan was just get 1 for The Inquisitor.

0-3

Depends how interesting they are to paint. I've definitely cut down A LOT since Wave 10 though, only bought a Scurrg from the last wave.

I take a large portion of my xwing in as birthday or Christmas gifts, or tournament prizes. Outside of that I would say I buy... maybe 4 ships a year, one of those being large?

Think the last ship I bought was a quadjumper funny enough.

One of each, unless I need more copies of a ship or card for a specific build.

One of each, unless I really want to fly more of them. Then I buy multiples second hand as people sell them off. I now have 3 Tie SFs for example. I might get a fourth, eventually, but only if it's very cheap.

I usually get 2 of each expansion minimum. With the last two waves, I've only gotten 1 each.

I used to go for 100 points of generics.

I'm way behind on releases now but 2 of each to start with, especially since they changed the pricing structure, as I catch up is the plan.

If they keep raising the prices I'll reconsider buying multiples at all.

what ever amount makes a 100 point list...

This is basically me as well. As much as I would like to get more for some of the cheaper ships (Sabine's TIE, striker,, bomber, ETC) I can't really justify it. The only exception being two IGs because you have to run two haha.

But I play Rebels, my wife Imperials so we pick up one each of those. Scum we don't care about at all (other than the IGs) and I wouldn't have bought Nym if not for the Rebel version. The new Mando bullseye thing, Quadjumper, and the rest of the scum faction I don't care about at all.

Oh and no to the Wookie Gunship too. Just no. It's the ugliest ship in the game (worse than the previous title-holder the poorly designed and well-hated Jumpmaster) and I refuse to fly it, I don't care how good it is I'll fly something else.

For the new packs we are definitely grabbing the Phantom 2 (huge Rebels fan), and one of each of the Imperial ships (wife is pumped for the new ace) then if there is some money left over than a bomber.

I'm not a big fan of the obscure fringe ships, and would rather have some Clone Wars or Vong ships (despite that probably never happening with Disney at the helm, it would be awesome), those I would have to get more of. But still holding out for a Clone Wars starter with two vulture Droids and a jedi starfighter, that would be a must buy multiples for me.

I generally look at how many of the lowest cost ship I can fly in a 100-point squad and still have room for upgrades.

One each, unless it's beautiful like the ARC.

I generally buy one of each expansion unless there's a specific reason I want more than one. To date, I've bought a couple of scum ship packs in duplicate but never more than 2 of the same pack.

Gunboat might be my first imperial multiple copies of the expansion. Everything else that has been teased so far will be one copy for me.

I'm typically 1 large, 2 small. Then if there's a specific list to fly, I may pick up more.

I'll buy 1 of each small ship that has a vague chance of being competitive (I still haven't bought many ships from waves 1-8) when I can. Then I'll supplement with as many ace packs as I can afford. I've got 3 Defenders and Bombers, then 2 of most else on small bases. I'll only buy a large ship if it's paint-worthy, since I'm not a big fan of flying them.

0 or 1

Waves 12 & 13 aren't that interesting, except for the Gunboat, I'll get 1 of those. After Guns for Hire & the Gunboat there may never again be new ships that capture my attention as much as those. Unless they actually release the N-1 starfighter.

depends on the ship and what list I want to fly. I have more of a "things to buy list" than a buy on release list. I still haven't flown my arc-170 and I can't remember the last time I fielded my TIE defenders, so mainly I just buy for upgrades when i feel like it. (and I can afford it, obviously)

Of course the gunboat is going to break that cycle for me on its release.

wave 13 i'm not all that excited for my rebels, so it's probably just gonna be 1 tie silencer. (resistance A-wing would change this dramatically.)

I used to buy 4 of each small ship, but ever since we moved away from ships in the X-wing and TIE Fighter games, I slowed down.

If you can hear this FFG, I would be back to buying boatloads of ships if it were X-wings and A-wings and TIE interceptor repaints with lots of interesting new pilots for those ships.

I guess I'm just not really interested in a lot of the others from Galaxies or the new films. I got into the game to relive the space battles of the old films, Rogue Squadron N64, X-wing, TIE Fighter, XvT, and Rebel Assault games. Rogue One was so thrilling though, it scratched exactly that itch, so I'd go for that too. In fact, if there were a whole line of X-wings and TIE fighters and all the amazing stuff we saw in Rogue One, I'd be all over that in there like a dirty shirt before you could blink.

But for the foreseeable future? I probably won't be buying any new ships, maybe a couple extra phantoms (I already have 4, but gotta paint them up in exciting schemes.). The exception to this is starwings. I will be buying lots of starwings. Just have to. :D
But otherwise, I'll buy a ship only if I've tested it extensively on Vassal and I'm a big fan of the way it plays. I just don't get as excited about the last several waves, minus the TIE Striker. Something just doesn't feel Star-warsy enough to me about them, especially the Scum and Villainy ships.

I can trace my loss of enjoyment to a very distinct fork actually, when we started being able to really mix and match eras. That totally froze things up for me, I guess I was a big fan of flying squads that were semi-realistic as far as the Star Wars world went, albeit with a bit of suspension of disbelief. But I find it really hard to get excited about playing a squad with a first order TIE, an inquisitor who died before a New Hope, and an ace from the Empire strikes back.

It bothers me that r3 turrets (including PWTs) are so prevalent, and it bothers me more that it's so hard to fly a competitive squad that meets the star wars canon fluff. I want to fly a 181st squad, or Rogue Squadron, or Blue Squadron with a U-wing, or Wraith Squadron. Not Jumpmasters, Auzitucks or Quadjumpers. Just the way I feel.

So short of seeing those things, buying has slowed to snail pace.
