Positive Outlook of the New Preview

By GILLIES291, in X-Wing

Dont get me wrong, the Silencer will be deadly. Its definitely not a DOA kind of ship at first glance, if its DOA it will only be because of its odd pricing compared to other imperial ships making giving it buddies difficult, not because of the ship itself.

Only reason im miffed about it is its literally an intercepter 2.0. They could have done so much with that ship...instead its just another arcdodger, only this time its beefy enough to survive a failed arcdodge.

i was seriously expecting the Bullseye to be on that ship since the Bullseye description fits the Silencer name perfectly (cant use tokens cause you're silenced, i.e. cant use spells)

Smaller faster waves. I'm cool with that. I think the frequency in waves has something to do with FFG trying to schedule the new ships to be released close to film/tv premiers.

Surely, there are plans for expansions from Han Solo, Rebels S4, Episode 9- plus some older ships are still on deck. Even more animated shows are in the way. I think it's a wise thing to get the ships out along with the movies/shows.

.

Kylo will be insane as an Imperial Ace.

But I'm looking forward to the Trajectory Simulator for the inevitable TIE Shuffleboard Launcher (aka Punisher).

But isn't that a pretty consitent feature of the game, Han Solo notwithstanding?

The PS 6 Starviper pilot has a different PS (7) and ability in the Kimogila. It's not a law. If they gave him something that didn't actively work against the usefulness of the chassis, i'd be happy.

I wonder if the PS 7 guy (his ability is basically "Trickier shot") will be any good.

Adv Sensors + Elite existed before, but not on a PS 9.

I think it will be a big deal.

presumably most pilots would get better performance out of their regular ship, rather than one they just happen to be piloting. would explain Poe Dameron.. the PS8 version being him in a standard T-70 like at the start of TFA.. and the PS9 would be him in his personal T-70 (like at the end of TFA when they attack Starkiller Base)

So with rough estimated dates for Wave 11 and 12, do we have a solid drop date for Guns for Hire?

The Silencer will be awesome, but the current bomb meta still kills it. You can either go PTL+AS for an amazing arc dodging ace, but get rekt by bombs, or you can go VI+AS to dodge Nym, but get rekt by traditional attacks since you can't reposition and Focus in the same turn. Can't have both. It feels like a ship that would be amazing pre-bomb wing. Which means it's definitely great for casual play!

Speaking of nym, did anyone mention the insane scary range he now gets if he trades AS for that new system?

He can now do 5 forward, then throw a bomb another 5 forward (effectively range 2-1/4 to 3-3/4 on a range ruler)

but he has no flexibility- he locks it in with his dial, then reveals it at PS10.

I don't get why Kylo's ability is wrote-off. It's a PS9 3-evade ship. If you take sensor jammer, when a higher PS ship fires just give them the PS0 crit.

people won't wanna shot him first in a list. That's a big thing

I really like the Silencer (and the new mecanic of basically artillery shells)

He's very solid with an equal to 3/3/3/3, which is the statline of the dreaded Defender or the pimped /SF.
A native boost & barrel roll is great and allows Autothrusters to make a comeback for Imperials after /SF, Defender, and Advanced could not equip it.
TL basically means the Royal Guard+Targeting Computer is included (and no it's not the first ship with TL but no ordnance). As a sidenote, it's probably intentional that they included the TT targetlock for Kylo, as the bomber doesn't have one...
A Focus to round it off makes sure the Silencer can get double mods on attack or defend reliably. There is no evade, but that is a good thing - we don't want the Soontir debacle again! And the dial shows the green 2-turn, so PTL might be stapled to him.

The EPT, Tech and Systems slot mean that the Silencer gets three of the best slots IMO, and allows for different builds.
PTL of course, but Intensity might be another choice if you are pressed for points, really want the evade. The new EPT seems to allow an evade per obstacle or debris within range 1, but I think the Silencer wants at least double actions, so that won't fit well on there.
There are two new Techs, one being Small ship (or Silencer?) only. The other is probably a Comm Relay but for Focus. That might fit Poe quite well
The System slot probably means either FCS or (even better, but more expensive!) Advanced Sensors.
Also in the box is a unique title for the Silencer only, allowing either an offensive single reroll under rather harsh conditions, or a complete reroll of your green dice. It is ok, think of it as a countermeasures with a side effect. But it's too expensive for this ship as far as I'm concerned. Unique means it's also not an option for several generics.

Kylo at PS9 for 35pt is on the expensive side. But that's mostly because we are so used to imperial ships being fully equiped at 33-35pt. That is of course not possible here - you can't have twice the hitpoints as Soontir and Systems+Tech for the same price. An AS-PTL double repositioning ship at PS9 with 3 green and autothrusters is new as it is a more defensive Corran or Whisper. That is probably a good thing as we usually all agree that red dice creep harms the game. I also don't understand the criticism for his ability. Yes it is only dealt when he gets hit, but you have 2-3 modifiers for that, so it's within your control. And 2 shields mean you can deal them out. Your wingmen or Kylo in the next turn can then trigger it. That means once you set it up you can keep it going, but it doesn't cost you an action on an already action craving ship, and you can finetune when you want to get hit. But most importantly it acts as a deterrent, similar to Quickdraw's ability. And that should not be underestimated.

So my Kylo build would be his 35pt + Advanced Sensors (3) + PTL (3) + Autothrusters (2) + Primed Thrusters (1)/Pattern Analyzer (2) for 44-45pt. Primed allows the roll/boost with stress and advanced sensors, while Pattern means you can go green, use PTL and end the turn without stress, completely keeping your dial open. I know my SO will definitely fly Duchess and Sabacc with him as she did with Whisper before.

And lastly: some moan about the price of $30, which is misunderstanding the point. Look at the pack and model: the ship is quite large (and gorgeous!), so similar to the U-Wing or IG2000. Those were not criticised for $30, so why should the Silencer be?
If it's all about the base: think about it, why would that small bit of plastic cost 10 additional dollar?! Clearly that's not the case, so why should the Silencer be just $20?

New toys are ALWAYS cool! Hurry up and take my money FFG!
