I've had a few days to think about it. And I think the B/SF-17 bomber might be the most beautiful ship in the game. It has a HEAP of Star Warsieness, reminds me of the Nebulon B, and has ordinance silos. I think the miniature is the right size. And I think it is really going to lend itself to some amazing repaints. I hope it is a beast in both the movie and on the tabletop.
TIE Silencer and Rebel B/sf-17 preview up
Does anyone think the launch mechanic will take place of a regular attack?
No.

At this point there's no text to back that up, so the safest assumption is the bomb is launched at the normal time, upon revealing a maneuver, and then the bomber still gets a turret attack during the Combat Phase.

Not an assumption
Card literally says "instead of dropping"

Its just the language of the event. You can't "drop" something that far away, for it to be placed that far it must be "launched". Nothing special will preform like any other bomb.

There's literally no reason to do a new term if it was just dropping it 5s behind you like a normal bomb drop. You can already drop with a 1-hard (sol sixxa), 2s (bombardier, or 3s or 3 hard (emon azzameen). If it was just using a 5s template they'd have kept the same wording as the others.
Theres already plenty of precedent that game terms don't have to mean exactly the same thing as the normal English definition (touching isn't actually touching in X-Wing unless you overlapped first)

If launching and shooting were mutually exclusive then why would they cripple the ship by giving it two attack dice? I mean, two dice makes no sense from a fluff perspective given how many turrets are on that thing, but from a gameplay perspective you probably don't want a 3 die PWT doing whatever it is launch does and then also throwing three dice immediately after.
(it's possible one of the unrevealed cards answers that question, but...)

The bomb hurler is fun, but the turret is not lol. All in all, an okay wave.
Also the first order gets the SS target lock. And the TT for crying Kylo
I can't count how many times Soontir has "died" over the last few years. This ship is still pricey and doesn't naturally evade. Also, Kylo's pilot skill is not as amazing as people think. You may not even get to use it the first few rounds.

Kylo's Pilot Skill is 9. His ability is a nice bonus.

You think he can afford just a PS 9, or is VI going to be mandatory on him?

Perhaps "launch" will end up meaning "use the front guides on your base" instead of "drop" which uses the rear.

IMO the status card will probably come from a regular attack. Would make sense. Attack with only 2 dices but after that your next bomb will do 1 extra crit dmg.

Well, we can see that's the case on the top named pilot. The other named guy and especially the generics do not appear to share that text, so...
Interesting question WRT Crimson Leader: when does the cancellation take place?
If it's during the modify dice step, you can equip him with Accuracy Corrector, roll a natural hit, cancel it, then use AC to add two more.
So I assume it's during Compare Results or lol
It's really ridiculous. My budget for this game is shrinking drastically.
B-17: let's take the most useful bomber the imperials have(deathrain) and make that ability available, and better! For all factions; add 3 hp and a tech slot; won't need those missiles and torps since you can fire bombs easier than you can shoot those; oh add a PS AND a pilot ability since that system slot covers the old one, bonus points for making it auto damage... and to just royally screw over the punisher, make that one upgrade that would probably make them truely playable not available to them.
Silencer: hey, remember how the dev team once thought just adding more hp to an interceptor would make it work? Let's do that again. Let's go big! Double the HPs! But to compensate let's get rid of evade; they can always just pay more for thrusters and this new title. You always pay a little more for good ships and that always works out right? Oh, throw in some other slots too (so it can cost more again). So that makes it cost more than Soontir... better make sure that pilot ability isn't as good as his either because Soontir has one of the best abilities in the game. So for 7 more points you effectively get the same ship with a free hull upgrade and a better dial at the cost of losing an amazing pilot ability and the ability to overspend even more. Seems fair right?

If it's good for the imperials let's make it better and give it to the other factions.
If it's for the Imperials let's just make it the same as somthing else in faction or the same as somthing another faction got 5 waves ago.
----
Some of it is obviously hyperbole... it's still really sad that such comparisons can be made at all and the trend is continuing.

Part of me wants to wait and see the rest of the cards, the dials and the Great FAQ of Legend (tm) before I agree with you.
Part of me agrees with you already.
Most of me plays Rebels and DGAF, enjoying having the tables turned! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
But seriously, yeah, lets at least undo the Palp nerf and maybe stop making more insane bomb cards.
Does anyone know if the designers witnessed the death of tokened Soontir before or as they were designing the Silencer? I can't help but think, with the insane bomb meta they've created, the Silencer will be hard countered immediately out of the box. I mean, even if Soontir was still seen here and there when they were dreaming this up (he probably was already gone), they should have known that as they nerfed old Palp and looked at all their Rebel/Scum bomb shenanigans, this ship couldn't work like an amazing meta Ace.
If they knew the anti-Ace meta they created and designed the Silencer anyway, they truly suck at their jobs. I love the model, but I'll may just pass on buying this one....
Where's my tea?

I don't know. I'm pretty convinced there are good PS11 builds, so if some reason PS9 is no good, I think it's still a strong ship. It keeps his cost down, at least. Although maybe I'm wrong.

That's another issue with the ship and many imperial ships in general, they come with so few slots and many of those slots are "spoken for" at release:t itle and Mod are locked and VI is pretty close to mandatory. I really dislike that design, better than 7 slots I guess but the interceptor, phantom, and now silencer all require certain cards at release just to function.
That isn't an imperial only trend either.
I really like the TIE Silencer in terms of the visual design and the game design. It's base chassis is better than a T-70 (dial pending) and we get a true PS9 arc-dodger. The PS9 will also facilitate a slightly different method of using Kylo's ability in my opinion. The pack itself is really nice too, with a tonne of great upgrade cards and some precious reprints. Advanced Optics looks really good. The title seems a little expensive, I'd like it at 1pt.
The Bomber was a little disappointing for me. I love the look of the ship, although I hate the Crimson squad paint job, I wanted the Cobalt squad colour scheme. The scale is a little jarring, it seems closer to the Hounds Tooth scale factor, rather than the majority of the rest of the large base ships. It is an awkward shape for the game though so its understandable. The playstyle seems very linear so far in terms of the upgrade action bar which is a bit disappointing, but there are 2 pilot abilities we can't read and 2 upgrades aren't clear so the jury is out on it so far.
Speaking of the unclear upgrades, to me they look like they might be;
"Crosswing Formation" (a guess based on the words seemingly being the same length, and roughly the same length as the word 'ordnance') - When (defending?) [if there is] at least (??number) [of] Resistance [ships at Range] 1-2 of the (attacker?) add 1 (evade?) [result]
The scene in the trailer showing the bombers kind of looks like a blockade of sorts. Maybe they are defending a planet or capital ship etc?
"Deflector Plate/Plating" When [a bomb token] detonates (, if it is in your primary firing arc, you may ignore it effects???)
That one is purely a guess as if its launching bombs at 5 straight out the front guides there is a high chance it will move into its own bombs range.
"Cobalt Leader" - When [...] is at Range [...] defender [...]
"Crimson [..]" PS4 - When (a friendly ...?) reveals [a ... manoeuvre, you] may [...]
The other pilots are much harder to decipher.
Re: launch v deathrain
Deathrain gets a free broll which is hugely and hilariously useful
He can also launch with the upgrade but his ability triggers on drop only
Hopefully tech included in new sets help out imperials. Been the trend so far, as the FO ships are generally stronger than the t70 and quad
Poe's obviously got focus relay in the bag though
Ok, so as I look at the bomber, and still completely hate the look of it, I will say to those who DO decide to buy one, if one of you do not paint it up like the "Red October" or "USS Dallas" I feel you are not doing it right. That is all.
