Did they screw up the Tie Phantom?

Amazing, yes. That would be absolutely broken.

So not without a points increase there...

I mean, people here are already commenting on how much good it would be to be obstructed... Being immune by virtue of never being in range to any non-ship-commanded-or-rogue attack is glorious .

It is only a speed 1 move. They can be blocked still.

Well you have to admit it is hard to do hidden information on a table top game other than placing a card/token face down. Secret location other than writing on a piece of paper behind a blind is just as cumbersome.

But I did count escort.

I counted it as a negative, as a lot of people do (and even said that).

Really I take 4-5 because of Escort Paired with Jan and Biggs these ships are hard to kill, hit hard and have Bomber. I have found them to be the best all round ship in the game all for 13 points

I think the Phantom is fine its a ship that comes in attacks then can move away and attack another target next round. If your first player with Squall, 4 Phantoms + 2 Tie Advance you can have a lot of fun buy passing your opponents Escorts and attacking high value targets. you never know you could get that last hit on a ship to kill it with 2 red dice.

I think the phantom has a lot to offer the Imperials when played right

I think they did screw up the Phantom, both in theme and balance. The Cloak keyword doesn't feel like what we expect from a cloaking vessel, and 14 points is far too high for this squad when compared to the many better Empire squad option. I've tried, and tried and tried, to get value out of Phantoms (with and without Sloane) and every time I would have been better of using different squads.

The only time you get value out of them is when they hug the station, and that can lead to boring games if your opponent doesn't want to come play around the station. I've even tried them with the Station Assault objective but your opponent can usually just blow up both stations in 1 turn and not worry about Cloaks around stations.

I really want to like the Phantom. I love how it looks and love it's lore, but the Cloak keyword wasn't designed properly. It's un-thematic and not that useful in play. Like others mentioned, simply making it so that attacks against them while they are un-activated are obstructed would have made this much more useful. At 4 hull, they get insta-killed vs anything other than a minor squad force.

In short, sadly the 14 points makes this one of worst squads for competition games.

Of course you would :P

When you need 3 dmg on a ship, and your intel is dead/never existed, who you gonna call?

We dont like them because they are swingy and not because they are bad. They can turn games if luck favours you.

However, thats an aside. Quite simply, intell is too strong and always has been. Take Dengar away and phantoms are amazing.

Counter is only useful if you are being shot. Its negative utility!

If you need 3 dmg on a ship you don't call YVs :D

My complaints about phantoms are basically theoretical so I really don't have complaints until I really test them but I wish his skill would work at the start of the squadron phase. But who knows? If the devs didn't chose that timing they would have their reasons.
