Hey there,
I wonder what you guys would recommend for an old X-Wing player who wants to get back into the game.
Me and my play partner (whom I will support with my collection) do like to play more the joust style and prefer small ship combat.

Right now nym is hot (scurrg h6), for both scum and rebel players.
Tie /sf for imperials
And guns for hire should be handy for scum when it drops.
Edited by RalgonHard to argue with defenders for jousting if you're limiting the game to small ships, especially with the x7 title.
I'd say: imperial veterans, Tie FO pack, Tie SF pack, and surprisingly the Tie Aggressor pack. The FO and Aggressor are both really good self-contained packs, and the only reason the aggressor gets a bad rep is it came out good when the other packs of it's wave came out great.
For scum, most wanted (think of it as the scum core set), kirhaxz, starviper, and Scurrg. Add the guns for hire coming in the next month or so as it's a Kirhaxz and Viper ace box with goodies. The Protectorate fighters are fun too, somewhere between interceptor-y dodging and "in your face I'm at range 1" jousting.
Rebel small base would be Nym (pilot in the Scurrg pack), T70s are decent. The rebel tie can be useful in odd ways. The auzituck is a decent new rebel jouster. Fairship rebels is an all small base list but it's kind of no fun to fly as or against.

Auzituck anti-slaver gunships, Heroes of the Resistance, surprisingly a Sabin's TIE for Captain Rex to increase your Jousting Efficiency.
Red Core set, new TFA-Core,
Imperial Veterans, TIE/SF, and maybe some TIE Strikers or TIE-Aggressors.
If you like Scum, Good, old Manaroo (Jumpmaster) with two Protectorate Fighters is surprisingly fun list. You want a most wanted set on top, maybe a second jumpmaster for dengar and if you want to try the newest hotness. get a H6 Bomber on top, which works surprisingly well as a partner to an E-Wing as well. But here we are more into arc Dodging and ace style gameplay and less pure jousting.
edit:
Just to clarify, the second jumpmaster would be for the world's list Dengar/Tel Trevura. As your focus is more onto small ships you may or may not want to skip on that, thing is it comes with two mindlink cards and you usually want 3 to 4 of those, and if you need the cards anyway and the list is not only strong, but cheap as well … might as well go with two.
