I was inspired to create a non-unique rebel fleet by one of my friends who has done the same thing with Imperials. I take a background based approach to my games so having Antilles, Lando and Sato in the same fleet makes me uneasy, especially if I’m using them regularly. The Tantive IV can’t be at every battle after all and not every Nebulon B is Yalvaris or Salvation.
Added to this, I’d fallen into a rut with my fleet. Every ship I had, had a title and I was relying on them to help me win. It also made it specifically a rebel fleet which straitjacketed me to a side in multiplayer games (which we have a lot of down here).
After reading Aftermath and watching Rogue One I’m more convinced than ever that the Rebel Alliance is full of self-serving malcontents that I would want nothing to do with. Well, no more. From now on my squadron follow the (entirely ethical) credits, operating out of the Corporate Sector. I’ve already repainted half of the fleet anyway- my stolen Neb B looks good in Imperial Grey. I’ll be customising the X Wing models as they are pretty much purely an Alliance fighter.
Privateers- 399
Jaina’s Light- 73
Corvette A
General Dodonna
Turbolaser Reroute.
Corvette B- 47
Overload Pulse
Nebulon B- Escort- 60
Defensive liaison
Nebulon B- Support- 52
Armed Transports- 26
Comms Net
MC 30 Torpedo Frigate- 75
Ordnance Experts
H9 Turbolasers
Squadrons- 66
2 X Wings (T55)
2 Z95s
H6 Bomber
Y Wing Squadron
The only 2 unique parts are Jaina’s Light and the commander. I went with Dodonna because Privateers would traditionally try to capture rather than destroy- aiming for engines and weapon systems makes sense for a group of pirates. Jaina’s Light isn’t really unique- there were 3 of them commanded by a criminal rather than a rebel in a ship smuggling operation. Added to that, the skill fits my fleet and I really like it.
I might change some ship upgrades and squadrons around. The H6 is expensive for example, but I enjoy using it and until I have an alternative I may as well keep it.
I’m leaving the ships nameless until they get a story behind them. They’ve only had one game so far (against rebels) which was a convincing win and a promising start, even if my poor fighter screen was torn up by Red Squadron aces. I’m planning to keep a squadron token banked on a couple of the ships so that the bombers become extensions of the ships’ firepower rather than working together as a bomber wave. Everyone seems to be planning on bombers acting as a wave and grouping their interceptors to negate this approach- this should throw a spanner in the works.
What I need to do is choose missions. Any ideas are welcome- especially if they fit the background.
