Creative Ideas for Tournaments/Events

By Angry_Ewok, in Star Wars: Armada

We all like a normal game of Armada, and many of us have had a chance to try CC once or twice, but now that Store Champs are over and we have some time before regionals I think it is a great opportunity to run some odd events to mix things up.

For example, this weekend I am running a mini-CC event where a rebel and imperial team of 3 construct lists using the CC guidelines and then play a 400, 450, and 500 point game. Each round, initiative is determined not by bid but by each team's Grand Admirals alternating picking who has first player. Also, each Grand Admiral gets to hand out a Spy Net and Skilled Spacer token once match ups are set for each round.

At the end of 3 games the team with the highest combined tournament points wins. MoV for breaks a tie.

I was wanting an event that can be done in one day but feels like CC lite. Not just another tournament.

anyone else tried similar things? off the wall events that do not conform to the 400 point tournament rules?

also anyone have examples of a way to intigrate Armada and X-wing into a 2-3 round one day event.

Looking for your ideas and experiences for my next event I try.

Also interested in any homebrew rules created to allow a "pirate," or "scum and villany," faction. I feel like some broad restrictions could make it possible to make a pirate fleet composed of the 2 factions for use in CC and team narrative events.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I also made rules for a CC lite that is a lot like yours. 2 day event for 6 players. Day one is 3 games each, day 2 is a big battle that uses two boards.

I ran this a couple of times for funsies to great success:

Have 1 table going on for 1v1 Armada and 2v2 for another table fielding X-Wing. How the Armada game was going gave you reinforcements (generic pilots) for the X-Wing game and they would come from the board edge (blanks from the rear, hits on the side, crits you choose). The X-Wing game did not influence the Armada game at all, just the other way around.

It was a lot of fun.

We did our CC campaign over three separate days, 3 games per day with the last day just having the final battle. It worked pretty well.

This coming weekend we are holding a Task Force tournament, with 200 point fleets using @Blail Blerg 's ruleset. Not an overwhelming response so far but we will see!

Has anybody tried standard tournament rules except that all upgrade cards are facedown and only revealed when used? (And marked to differentiate discarded cards from unrevealed ones.)

Heck yeah! =)

I think a Traitors theme could be cool. Each fleet has an Admiral from the opposing faction. I'd like to see some official scenarios like they have for X-Wing. I keep saying I'm going to come up with some way to combine Armada with Rebellion but keep making up excuses not to. The current one is waiting for Legion so I can use that for the ground combat. Most of all though I want to get to play an actual full CC Campaign.

This might be fun to try out. Cracken / Mon Mothma Raiders, Ozzel MC30s, maybe Vic Is with Sato, lots of cool stuff.

...on second thought, there's also Raddus BTvenger and Ackbar Gozantis. Please no.

I've been working with some ideas inspired by Heros of the Attari Cluster missions from X-wing and scaling them up to Armada. I'm currently working on one with a secret base and testing grounds for the Tie Phantom. Maybe if I get a chance, add a mix of missions to the CC

Naked tournament

400 points with commander only. No upgrades, no aces, no unique squadrons. Good to introduce new players to tournament play and the game in general as they don't have to process the upgrade integration (timing, synergy, etc.).

Still going to do that Take the Station tournament
