Ion Projector in current meta

By wurms, in X-Wing

Anyone using this to good effect? Scum Nym and Poetensity, both highly popular right now, are ripe for some ion projector abuse. I currently have it on a few support blockers in some lists (jumpmaster blocker, and an HLC fringer). I have played a few games against Scum nym and have not had him bump me yet, so its either working great making ABT Nym fly away from me, or a useless two points. Have not faced a Poetensity yet with my Ion Projector. I understand Poe can still boost afterwards, but at least he is not regenning, and also the round I block him, he is tokenless.

So, the question is how far can two points go? Whats 2pts and is anti-poetensity and anti-Nym?

Ion projector like anti-pursuit laser is a large ship only. Nym is on a small base even though it is bigger than some large based ships. Now if you are using a jumpmaster as a blocker then sure you can hammer (Nym) and jumpmaster (Anvil) combo the list but I don't know if that would leave you with much else.

If you have the mindgame down to a level that you can stop Nym from getting out of your large base even with Adv Sensors, then Ion Projector sounds like great fun.

Against the two targets you mention it certainly outclasses anti-pursuit-lasers, as both do not care that much to potentially receive one damage.

I'd say your other choices for 2 pts upgrades are mainly: FCS or Bossk for sustained fire, Extra Munitions for repeatable Alpha-Strikes, Gonk for regen against bombs, Tactician for disruption, or maybe something like BoShek for sillyness.

But comparatively those are mostly boring, use the Projector! :D

I'm not seeing how this would stop Nym with Advanced Sensors. He should be able to dodge you easily with a pre-move boost or barrel roll in most situations, and he'd still only have a 50/50 chance of receiving an ion even if you do block him.

You'd have to set up a block somehow first, but ion prevents using Advanced Sensors. Palp the roll and laugh?

So now we're also using either a Lambda or Decimator as our blocker/Palp carrier?

Also it won't stop Nym from dropping bombs. Bump him the first time and he'll Genius drop onto your blocker. If successfully ion and bump him again, he can still Genius to drop a Bomblet. As long as you're fine with your blocker taking a Bomblet every single round until Nym dies, it'll work.

But first thing is to actually manage to block an Advanced Sensors Nym.
