MC 75 Hype Train! All aboard!!!

By The Rebel Fleet, in Star Wars: Armada

Not going to lie, at first I was ho-hum about the MC75, but slowly Im starting to think this ship might just be awesome! I hope we get the English preview soon!

I was initially extremely non-plussed. Saw it as a hullier AF. If it was going to cost 90 to 100 points then why use it instead of an MC80.. either version? And any cheaper then what's the point of the AF? Those were my initial thoughts. I am becoming more intrigued by black dice on a big ship though, which the rebels just don't have. For big Rebel ships, medium range is the same as close range so there is no deterrent for Imp ships to get right in there and blast away. I am very VERY curious about the upgrades it will be able to have and some of the new upgrade cards (ship titles!!!!). The description says torpedoes.. so we might have a big ship that can carry APTs. If it can take OE also... awesome. I am worried about speed and cost but am becoming more and more interested in this ship the more I think about it.

With the Kuat the imperials now have a large base with an ordnance slot. I don't think it would be a stretch to think that the MC75 got it too. That said, it will be decidedly less effective still than the ISD unless there is a retro where there are black and blue dice out the front and black and red dice out the side. This ship wants to double arc, and only getting black dice from the front is going to limit how effective the APT/ACM/ER will be. In fact, ER might end up being the upgrade of choice as close range front arcs from large ships are hard to get more than once or twice in a game.

I was really hoping there is a version or a title that can turn it into a large carrier, like 6 fighter activation's but for rebels that might be asking to much!

Wow, since so far we haven't seen anything more than a 4 on a ship card for squads I'm not sure that's going to happen. Although, Yavaris with Raymus is kind of like activating 6 squads.. you can get 6 shots.. as long as you position them right :)

You know, you can already activate six squadrons at once with MC80C+EHB+ token. You're not going to get a higher native squadron activation on a battle-carrier, I don't think.

I know, i was thinking 5/6 activation's naked so it could be a super carrier then add EHB and token but that sadly is never going to happen.

I'm an Imp player and I'm excited for it.

If Thawn wasn't coming out, i likely would of switched to Rebels.

Toot! Toot! Beep! Beep! All aboard!

I think it looks boring as f***k (in terms of design aesthetic).

I'm just happy that they're continuing to grow the game so book me a seat on the MC75 train!

Im more interested in the title and the admiral upgrade cards that go with it.

I think the cost is the big holdup for me. Too high and there is little reason not to take an existing MC80 variant. But the titles could do some seriously neat stuff.

I'm excited to have more options. I was actually very meh about another ISD, but it's kinda growing on me.

It all comes down to speed and cost. I just hope we aren't stuck at speed 2 and 100+ base cost.

I am excited - I love the look of the ship and I think the black die front arc and decent side arc are intriguing. Cost is going to be a big factor. I think there is a role for a more offensively minded big ship with some defensive ability (lack of defensive retrofit on the Liberty is a big drawback, at least in my experience so far), but that requires some more finesse (double arcing, neither of the two arcs are as dominant as a Liberty or ISD front arc).

I think,(hope) ffg will look at the MC80"s and price it accordingly. It really depends on those variables we don't know! upgrade slots, movement dial.

I'm no expert on Star Wars technology, but this is supposed to be a more primitive ship right? And one scrapped together basically? I envision it more as a line-breaking gunship with not much for defensive upgrades which to me would seem more advanced. The title, that lets you spew forth a smaller ship and send your commander on it seems to go along with that line of thinking. Also, the defense tokens seem to speak to the same thing.

The MC75 aka 'are you SURE you want to park that Raider in my front arc?'

I've been on the Mon Cal line of ships freight train since they announced the game itself. This is just the next stop.

Though now I have a bit better engine at the front of the train (conga line) than the Liberty.

Extended universe(non canon) bits here: The early Mon Cal series of ships were initially Space Liners and research vessels that were refitted into warships. They were known for superb shielding that would not risk passengers and equipment. The later models like Mon Remonda (MC90? MC80B?) were built as warships from the ground up.

Given that, any Mon Cal ship without a defensive (shielding oriented) upgrade slot would be atypical

A defensive retrofit is all but a certainty on at least one variant, since we can see the early warning ? Defensive retrofit from the Chimera. Granted, the Quasar has a turbolasers but can't equip it, so there is a chance the MC75 won't get one. On the other hand, with only one brace and One redirect, the MC75 really wants ECM unless somethiby in the pack let's the ship do crazy things with those contain tokens.

What turbolasers came with the quasar?

Quad battery turrets. It's likely the Quasar 2 had a turbolasers slot at one point and they kept the upgrade in the pack after the turbolasers slot was cut, but it's also possible they put it in so VSD fans could get their hands on a copy without buying the hammerhead.

That is great information and another example of my continuing ignorance. I never have been able to get into the EU stuff. For whatever reason it just never pulled me in.

I'm curious.. very very curious about the cost of this guy. It seems like it won't have red dice and those ships have been cheaper, but too cheap and it's down in the AF area. Does 80 to 90 seem right? More than that and it's up into the MC80 cost.

Edit: I'm apparently not on my game today.. it has red dice on both sides and the back.. I just got so focused on that front arc!!

How about one of the varients puts the red in the front and black on the sides, opposite of what we've seen? I think that would be neat.
