Perhaps it will look bad but was wondering how lego would work, a lego man is 4cm tall so slightly bigger but still close.

I have a huge star wars lego collection including some very big play sets that might work quite well Endor, and Hoth for example.

Stuff like this endor base should feel pretty good:

The scale is close and I have all this lego built already, might be a great fill in until I have some more realistic looking terrain. And I have a ton to choose from, has anyone else tried this with similar scale war games? does it just end up looking hideous?

If you have it already and as a filler until you made better terrain its quite ok I guess. Better then kellogs cardboardboxes.

I think it'd be cheaper just to buy some terrain online Seriously though Lego does make a good skeleton for terrain. I've used it before as the main shape or the body of the terrain feature then plastered over it.

It's probably the best commercially available Star Wars terrain; pricey if you don't have it already though.

As mentioned, Lego super pricey and retains price over time ... not something that is ever truly on sale ... but ...

If you wanted to go there and are in the US, Goodwill or Salvation Amy has sets fairly often. And ALL Lego instructions are available for free download. Thus, you don't need a set to make an AT-ST, for example, but you need pieces. Find pieces. Download instructions. Craig's List pretty good place to look for Lego pieces and sets too.

If FFG sells extra Legion bases, which they should, I'm thinking I probably will. Though I don't have anywhere near enough storm troopers or rebel troopers at the moment. Maybe its time to invest in some battle packs. :-)

..so perhaps just print the rules, buy 3rd party movement templates and range rulers, get some dice and damage decks... and then you're set?!?

Agreed! I think you can buy just the shield bunker off ebay for relatively cheap to; and then get the instructions off lego's website. talking maybe $35-40 dollars.

I've actually been playing around with the LDD and coming up with modular pieces to buy off of Pick a Brick.

That and I've got buckets of legos already, so I'm on board with this idea.

I'm looking into Halo Mega Bloks and Gears of War Mecanno (not sure if you have that one in the States) sets as these tend to have smoother finishes then Lego, particularly the Meccano parts look pretty good so far as pieces of a rebel base though I'll probably buy some camo netting or something to obscure them a bit.
