Hi guys. I'm new to this forum and somewhat new to the game. I don't play at a game store or anything, just with a group of friends who sometimes hold "tournaments" among ourselves, and some of them are pretty good with a lot of cards. I primarily play with my brother when we have time to get together. I haven't spent a ton on the game, but have 10 or so legendaries and a descent supply of cards. I managed to get an Elite Obi-Wan and it has become my goal in this game to make a viable deck with him, which I've read is hard to do. But here is my attempt anyway (posted below this description). I ran it this morning against my brother and won but he wasn't using his Jango/Veers deck that he loves to run and it would probably have been a totally different outcome. He had Rey/Qui-Gon and I took out both characters before he could finish off my Ben. Ackbar still had full health and Shields.
The way I have read most people try to play Obi is to use his Guardian ability to protect someone else. That is easily beatable by simply attacking Ben first, and he is so expensive you don't want him as a meat shield, you want you expensive character to be the meat. So I built this deck based around Ben's Focus ability and 3 melee damage. I added Ackbar because 1) he fits 2) he also has a 2 focus and 3) he allows me to bring in my Launch Bay card. The deck also has some other damage cards and upgrades, and is then stacked with health and shield events/supports/upgrades. I hope to get Launch bay or Strike team on the opening hand or shortly after. The idea is to stay alive until with all of the health and shields. Then focus those big cards to the sides I want, usually damage, but maybe resources or shields. And then maybe use Strategic Planning to roll that Launch Bay again. Ackbar has some use with his resource and focus. If I get a focus on Ackbar its 6 melee damage from Ben, or maybe 3 from Ben and 5 damage from Launch bay. The new Strike Team card works in a pinch as well if Launch Bay hasn't shown up. But there are a few upgrades as well that I can deal some damage with if my big hitters are on the bottom of the deck.
Lastly, if my Launch Bay gets discarded by my opponent, the battlefield allows me to go get it again
As I said it worked pretty well on my first attempt but I'm looking to improve it. I'd welcome some feedback. Thanks
