Latari Elven Archers a few games in

MSU, 4 units of 2x1 archers with wind runes or tempered steel, 2 units of 2x1 battle cats, single scions and Alaina. You're right, its a very different list and play style.

Saw my typo, those elves have a bad case of rune wind...

That sounds nasty.

I was kind of thinking Wind Rune would be better on MSU, but most of my testing has been 3x2 units, and it feels like they're a bit too big to be shifty like you want, hence the Fire Rune. With Fire though, it feels like maybe you have to give up another hitter, possibly some Leonx or Aliana, to throw out a single Scion or two with Vicious Roots as interference units. Needs more testing though

I tried the 3x2 in the first few games but didnt like the lack of mobility the large unit has.

With MSU you can always throw away a 2x1 unit of archers if things get really dire. My favorite move when within range one of a unit you know is going to catch them next turn is to use the initiative 3 move forwards 1 to really stuff up their charge. It's hilarious when archers choose to deliberately bump into a massive unit of cavalry your opponent has spent 4 turns carefully setting up to finally smash a piss weak unit of archers only to have his charge denied.

In our 3 rounds yesterday I lost 1 full 3xw archers once. And that was because i misjudged a shift. But doing 2 attacks a round with archers is horrible.

Compared to the list the Dolan were running though mine was positively friendly.

1x4 columns of spearmen with Fortuna dice and fire rune. And somewhere in the list geomamces to flip the runes. Just going for 8 damage an attack per spears squad is kinda horrendous

Fortuna dice is unique, how many did he have?

Has anyone tried Aliana with Malcorne's Bequest in a list with Fire Rune equipped archers. That seems like a good synergy. The free recast of the red runes would be used to fish for either threat 2 or threat 4. My one gripe with archers in MSU is that they only pump out 4 damage and I have a devil of a time hurting armour 5 Hawthorn.

We had a tournament where they ran Hawthorne and Kari, meaning they brought in archers and made them 4x1. Then he put Rank Disciple and Tempered Steel. So basically he was guaranteed 4 damage, was very consistently rolling 12, and with hawthorne inspiring the archers constantly the tempered steel was always up. No one could figure out how to deal with it, any thoughts?

If he's adding hits he's not shifting. Throw bodies at them, preferably the ol' 4-2 Panic March

I was waiqar, so unfortunately that wasnt an option

My thought would be a list with executioner and maybe a Maro with violent forces and maybe fortuna. dial in a mortal against hawthorne, hit him and use executioner to take him out. You may need 2 executioners to try to get around the accuracy of the archers. If you can kill Hawthorne there goes the tempered steel uses. Then just throw your big block at the enemy units. Also use your own archers, while they may not be as powerful they can still start plucking away and dropping their threat. Get some Carrion Lancers and dash them across to engage on or get in the way of as many archer units as possible as you move around and destroy everything.

Are the cards of the Latari Archer expansion relevant/strong? Its such a poor price-point, I consider buying a 2nd core box instead.

It depends on what upgrades you already have in your collection. Personally, I thought the only interesting upgrades in there were Fire Rune, which is neutral and you can get elsewhere, and Hunter's Guile, which I'm not even that keen on running in my lists right now.

It seems like a low value expansion, unless you really want Hunter's Guile

If you dont have a second core box I'd go that first. The expansion box for archers is really just the dial. I've bluetac'd on a photocopy to other dials so I can run 4 2x1s.

that's what we need some nice print offs that work the same size for fill ins. I would love to run an Uthuk army proxy once Berserker's dials are announced and Spined Thresher's whole dial is announced (right now you just see most of it (French Site)).

I know it's not released yet, but I can definitely see the Corruption Rune being a nice alternative to the Fire Rune. Yes, it's range is shorter and dependant on the Natural Runes in play but it can do anywhere between 1 and 3 damage AND a bane. It's also 3 point cheaper.

I'm going to try a 3x2 unit, in an army with Maegan Cybdewin (rune rerolls), with the Blackthorn Assassin, Corruption Rune, Verdant Sorceress, Simultaneous Orders, and a Front line Scion.

That's a high-cost unit.
