Damaging Structures

By macd21, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Quick question: are there rules for directly targetting structures or objects anywhere? I know that there are rules for damaging cover, but those are really for incidental damage that may be caused when trying to hit another target. Are there more specific rules for attempts to actually destroy physical objects?

For example, if you are targetting a wall and want to blow it up, using the 'cover' rules you'd have to hit it 16 times (as it would have an AP of 16) even if you are hitting it with a missile launcher, which is ridiculous. I thought I saw more specific rules for damaging structures somewhere, but I can't find them.

You're right, the damaging cover rules are really there for incidental damage (reducing how useful an object is as cover) rather than deliberate demolitions. There's not anything specifically for destroying or damaging structures, but it's easy enough to deal with, really. Simply resolve a normal attack against the object, reducing damage by its AP, and if there's any damage remaining, then there's a hole in the structure. How big the hole is will depend on the amount of damage you've done beyond the AP value (I'd suggest about 10 for a hole large enough for a man to walk through, half that if you only want a hole big enough to crawl through, while simply blowing the lock out of a normal door shouldn't take more than 1 or 2 excess damage).
