By Jello Knight, in X-Wing

Wednesday is podcast day! We are 3 members of the Birmingham, AL Barons X Wing group, and in the already saturated podcast world we figured, hey, what's another podcast more or less? Join us, three good, maybe great pilots, as we discuss a wide range of topics concerning X Wing and Star Wars in our nineteenth episode.

Topics Include:

  • Nationals recap

  • Player/dev panel

  • Tech slot discussion

I don't agree that Weapons Guidance has no situation where its worth it. 2016 Nationals Gene Hogle made Top 8 with Omega Squadron Pilot, Crack Shot, Weapons Guidance Ship Total: 20 x5 =100.

This set up has the Tie FO expecting 1.8125 hits. A Black Squadron Pilot with Howlrunner expects 1.82 hits. Now this is with 2 attack dice and Howlrunner gives a greater benefit at Range 1, but R2-3 it's essentially the same damage output as a traditional Howlrunner swarm and you're not relying on Howlrunner which dies usually first 2 rounds of combat, have a much better dial, and a shield.

Also in Epic I personally have had a ton of success with Omega's with Crack and Weapons Guidance for same reasons above, but also because in Epic you can fit Stridan with Hux and Hyperwave Comm Scanner. In Epic you can set up out to Range 2, then with Stridan they have 1 focus when placed. First action will be to Evade or Focus, then Stridan will pass more focuses. In Epic you will always see that first engagement you need to make use of Hyperwave Comm Scanner because of the Range 2 plus 5 Straight. I'll also have a bunch of SF's that have Juke/Comm Relay/Accuracy Corrector to make use of Hyperwave Comm Scanner which multiplies the 1 point upgrade card making it extremely cost efficient in that format.

I like that use of weapons guidance, but it might be the only time I've seen a list and been like "yeah, it makes sense here". There's just so many things competing for your focus token over the course of a round these days that it feels like a very rare use of an upgrade that costs 2 points and takes up a really good slot.

There so places for it. People just don't look for it. For instance, if you literally want to take dice out of the equation or only use Palp for defense. Put Weapons Guidance on an Expertise/FCS QuickDraw 98% chance of 3 hits every time. That's higher than any percentage of torps. You use it on defense though. So for instance you keep the focus if you have a shot coming and they know you will be able to max out all three hits and have Palp available. I guarantee you get more use out of it then Sensor Cluster.
