Call of Cthulhu

By Larry Ho-Teep, in Genesys

I know there are a few Cthulhu RPGs in the market, but if FFG does not publish a source book, even with all theirs Mythos games already available, I will make my own and keep my money, (just after buying the rule book and some dice).

But my question is about the horror / insanity mechanic. Are there already those in the base rulebook?

Also, can the skill list change depending on the setting? I think Call of Cthulhu in the 1920 won’t need too much Alchemy but Driving is a must…

Thanks!

By nature, the skill list is bound to change due to the setting. That's common sense, but the developer's have said as much . Alchemy is probably tied to their Runebound/fantasy setting.

But we don't know much about any specific mechanics. I doubt the core rulebook will include an insanity mechanic, as that would be rather specific, but I can see them deciding to put out a sourcebook with such rules, if they want to go that route.

I've got an insanity mechanic I've been working on, which I loosely based on Morality. Starts at 100 and goes down. But I've got it on hold as I wait for the Genesys rulebook to come out. May as well see if someone's done the hard work for me.

Posted this in the topic awayputurwpn linked to, may as well share it here too:

"Everything that Lovecraft published before 1923 is public domain, which is why there is such a glut of Cthulhu themed games. After that is confusing, and Chaosium does have some trademarks on some Cthulhu-related terms, further confusing the issue. Most likely it will stay in the realms of fanworks. "

I'll be using Genesys to run our Call of Cthulhu games. Did a bit of messing about yesterday, trying to type out a few ideas and created a quick character sheet as a starting point.
